(Hope you like it, however, I don't know if this is what you wanted, but here's my best shot!– DISCLAIMER: I never finished Black Flag because my disc kept malfunctioning; I imagine that this request would be either at the beginning or the end of the game– I thought the end would be a good place to set the scene. Btw, I haven't actually interacted with Caroline's character in forever so I've forgotten how she acts. No hate towards Caroline ofc :/)
=======================================
"Welcome home, Kenway," you clapped his back and moved below deck after watching the sun rise over the rural coast of Swansea.
It was an adventure and a half before you were sure you could both return home. You weren't sure how you managed to return home in one piece, but the experience the two of you procured helped you build your way to your next part in life– the British Brotherhood of Assassins.
"What's next for you, Y/L/N?" Edward asked you, tailing your shadow.
"I'll knock on the Brotherhood's door, I suppose. See if they have any use for a medic."
Oh yes, you were a doctor/surgeon and an Assassin. A valuable asset to the crew.
"Why don't you stay? The Jackdaw could use a pirate like yourself." He winked at you with a smirk.
"And what are you going to do, Captain? I doubt you'll be sailing this ship in the near future." You raised an eyebrow.
"We'll see. But first..." he grabbed your arm and pulled your above deck.
"Time for drinks, lads!" He announced triumphantly. He turned to kneel and kiss the back of your hand. "And lass." You scoffed and blushed with a chuckle.
"What do you say, Y/L/N?" You turned to Adéwale.
"Aye!" You agreed enthusiastically.
"Aye!" The crew was unanimous in their decision.
[#^•^#]
The pub roared in laughter and rowdy conversations.
Well, your and Edward's crew made the pub loud and rowdy.
"To Edward! And his expert care and skill to get us home!" You raised your glass of rum with pride for Edward.
"AYE!" The crew cheered.
"And to Y/N! Without her, half of you wouldn't be here today, so you'd better be bloody grateful!"
AYE!" You looked around at the cheers and toasts of your crew– your family, especially the ones with slings around their necks and bandages around their arms and chests. There was a sense of pride as scattered applause littered the crowd.
"Cheers, Kenway." You offered your mug his way.
"Cheers." With a clink, you both downed your alcohol.
"Kiss him, mate! You know you want to!" Sean, a friend of yours, nudged you in the ribs. You looked to Edward, who had a pink tinge to his cheeks.
There was an urge to lean in. And you didn't try to fight it.
Edward reciprocated. And within a matter of seconds, your lips collided. Another huge round of applause startled you both and made you break away.
"Three cheers for Kenway and Y/L/N!"
"HIP HIP?"
"HOORAY!"
"HIP HIP?"
"HOORAY!"
"HIP HIP?"
"EDWARD?!"
Edward's arm retracted from around you, looking like a deer in headlights once he discovered who the voice belonged to.
"Caroline!" He opened his mouth to say something, but when she stormed off, he knew he fucked up. "Caroline, wait!" The crew parted like the Red Sea, leaving a route for Edward to scramble through.
You were left dumb founded. "Who's Caroline?" You wondered aloud.
"I think that's something you should take up with Kenway, mate." You had no idea what to do– follow him, or stay here?
Taking off from your seat, you followed the route to the door. Outside, you could hear the faint sounds of arguing around the corner. You flicked your cowl over your head and took to the roofs. It was quite hard to find them through the dark.
"I can't believe fucking believe you, Edward!"
Found 'em.
"Caroline–"
"Did you honestly fucking forget about me?!"
"No, Caroline, please let me explain–"
"There is nothing to explain! You forgot about our marriage and found another to call yours!"
"It's not like that!"
"It's not like that, is it?" You dropped down from the building you crouched on and pulled your hood down.
"And who is she, then?"
"A friend," you replied with crossed arms. "I think." You mumbled the last part under your breath.
"Don't be angry!"
"It's too late for that!" Caroline had steam coming out of her ears.
"I'm not angry, Edward. But why didn't you tell me that you had a wife?! It would have made things less complicated!"
"How are you not in the slightest bit angry?!" Caroline fumed.
"Because we never had a thing! That was a one-off! We're slightly drunk!"
"Edward, would you like to explain?"
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Nothing I can say would make this situation any better– I know that. But please, give me a chance."
"Who are you talking to, Kenway?" You asked curtly.
Edward bit his lip stressfully. Glancing between you two, he found his answer.
"I'm so so sorry, love. But..." he sighed dramatically.
~•CAROLINE•~ (for the angst-consumers)
"Caroline is my wife for a reason. I love her, and now that I've seen her with my own eyes, I've realised how much I missed her."
You closed your eyes with a sigh. Your chest felt heavy with sorrow. "That's alright. I know the feeling." You smiled through shadowed tears. "I hope you both are happy for the future."
You flicked your hood on and turned away, walking towards the pub.
~•Y/N•~
"During my travels, I've figured out who I really am. I've changed and grown and learnt more than I ever could have here. But I've also opened my mind and my heart to others, and they've seemed to have captured it."
You blushed and cringed at the sloppiness.
"Caroline, I'm sorry, but I'm in love with another now." You both met eyes.
"I never should have let you go and chase your stupid obsession with gold." Caroline stormed away, grumbling.
You walked up to Edward. "You'd pick me over your wife?"
He chuckled and embraced you. "I didn't leave on the nicest terms anyway."
He kissed your ear. "Let's get out of the cold and somewhere much warmer."
