(A/N: Sorry this has taken so long– I wanted it to be as good as it can, but the plot may actually be a bit wobbly. I would love to know what you guys think of this– it would mean a lot to me if you would comment your thoughts? Also, requests are open for you! Just read the description for a few fandoms I'm in! Anyway, sorry; here it is!!)
=======================================
For the next few days, you and Edward did lie low. They confiscated your gear and you were both left with only shirts, breeches and boots. You never went out of arm's reach of each other and shared all meals, however small. Edward liked how you tried to make light of the situation, asking him what his favourite foods were and other questions of the like, and always whether he wanted anything from your plate first. As a result, he began to fall harder and harder for you every passing day, despite the situation.

One morning, you were pacing the space in the cell. "Why would he want human cargo, though?" you finally wondered aloud, eventually able to gather your thoughts properly.
"Ransom, I would've thought. Or revenge. Maybe even for the slave trade," Edward sighed, leaning against the cell beside the door, arms resting through the gaps lazily, wrists comfortably resting on one another. His forehead pressed against the wide thin bars. His skin instantly cooled.

"Well, you've thought correctly," a voice quipped, accompanied by footsteps. You stopped your pacing and looked in the direction of the cell door.

It was Smith, and he wasn't just here for a chat.

Edward stood straighter under Smith's glare. "You seem awfully relaxed for a captain who's been taken away from his ship," he told him, standing right in front of Edward's face. He managed to crack a sarcastic smile. "When I get the opportunity, mate, you'll regret ever starting down this path."
"The only opportunity you're getting is a trip to Davy Jones' locker."
At this, Edward seized Smith's jacket as a cobra would his prey. "I'm warning you–" he was cut off by you pulling him away.
"Don't be an idiot," you whispered into his ear, gesturing towards his entourage with your head. They had all drawn pistols and had aimed it at Edward.

"You know, you're a smart girl," Smith sneered. "Unlike your good-for-nothing brother; always getting in the way."
"Don't talk about my brother like that!" You were about to make a move for him when Edward held you back by your arm. You exchanged glances and you could hear the smug sentence that you had said a few moments ago rattling around his brain.

"Touché," you thought.

"He humiliated me!" Smith went on. "I was the best, and he ruined my destiny!" His face began to redden in rage, nostrils flaming. His face contorted into the look of a bull, ready to charge full speed towards the two of you. "I heard of his sister– one of the most notorious captains in the West Indies. I heard about her through rumours too. Some," he paused to chuckle crudely. "Some said you were so very ugly–"
"Wow, that's rude," you mumbled...
considerably loudly.

"DON'T INTERRUPT ME!" He slammed the door, it's rattling echoing through the brig. You jumped, startled.

"Others thought you brace and courageous. But then when I found out you were going to kill me, I knew I had to outwit you cleverly; Edward Kenway was your partner. If anyone knows the sea better than you, it's he who's also wrapped around my finger."
"I wouldn't count on it, mate," Edward bravely quipped, sneering.

Smith went silent. "What... did I say... about interrupting me?" He leant forward.
Edward mimicked his actions. "I. Don't. Care."
"I have the power here, Kenway, which I don't think you fully realise." Smith stood straight. "We're on our way to Kingston. There's someone there who's happy to pick you up. Money for me, thankless job for you. You're going where nobody comes back. My connections are sure to keep you where you stand." And with a prolonged glance behind him, his entourage escorted him back up on deck with his nose turned up.
