Louis was still in deep thought as Liam pulled up in the driveway of the Tomlinson house. He couldn't shake the guilt of just standing there while watching Harry get hurt. He didn't even notice that he was home until Liam shook him.

"Louis, snap out of it," Liam said, shaking Louis gently, trying not to hurt him.

"Wha-? Oh, thanks Li," the smaller boy thanked, opening the door of his car.

"Wait, Louis, hold on a second," Liam said, grabbing Louis' arm.

Louis winced, and Liam shot him an apologetic glance, before reaching over and closing Louis' door.

"Do you want me to stay the night?" Liam offered.

"What?"

"I mean, I was just thinking that if I was there, than your step-dad couldn't hurt you," Liam said, concern laced into his voice.

"I don't think it's a good idea," Louis mumbled.

"Why not? Your dad can't hurt you if-"

"But you can't be there for me every night Liam. I get it that you care, but there's always going to be a time when you're not there," Louis said dejectedly.

"But I can be there for you now," Liam said, concerned.

"Liam, thank you, but I'll be fine," Louis responded.

"God, it's like you have a death wish or something. Your step-father is beating you and one day, he will hit you too hard, and I won't get to see you again," Liam rambled on.

Louis could see how concerned his friend was for his safety, and honestly couldn't ask for a better friend than Liam. However, he didn't want to risk getting Liam hurt. If Mark would hurt his own family, then why wouldn't he hurt Liam? Plus, Louis was still feeling guilty about letting Harry get hurt, he couldn't watch the same thing happen to Liam.

"I'm not going to let you get hurt," Louis replied sternly. "I already feel bad enough about Harry, I can't watch you go through that too."

"That's exactly how I feel!" Liam protested.

"You don't understand."

"No, I do! How do you think I would feel seeing you tomorrow with more bruises on your body, knowing that I could have done something to help?" Liam asked, his volume increasing with every word. Louis sighed in defeat.

"You're not going to give up, are you?" Louis questioned.

"Nope," Liam grinned, knowing he was getting his way.

"Fine. Go home and grab whatever you need, I'm going to pick up the girls," Louis said, getting out of the car and shutting the door behind him. Liam rolled down the car window so he could still talk to Louis.

"Do you want to come-"

"Only for Harry," Louis interrupted, shooting Liam a wink.

"Louis," the brown-eyed boy groaned.

"But seriously, I can handle myself for a few minutes," Louis said.

"Are you su-"

"The sooner you leave, the sooner you can get back here," the Doncaster boy sighed, shooing Liam off.
