"Jack— thank god you answered."

Shelley breathed out a sigh of relief, lowering herself onto the edge of her sofa.

"Oh, this isn't Jack."

She frowned, pulling her phone away from her ear to check the Caller I.D. Definitely Jack's picture, definitely Jack's number. Definitely not Jack's voice.

"What? Who is this?"

She knew who it was. Knew before she'd even thought to ask.

"I'm Ja— I'm JJ. Sorry, Jack said I could answer the phone while he went for a shower. Said you might call. Interesting contact name, by the way." A laugh.

"Oh— that's um— did Jack stay with you last night?"

"And every night for the past week. We're, uhm— I guess you could say we're catching up."

"Ah, okay. Could you tell him to phone me when he gets out of the shower? I'd really like to talk to him."

"Sure, I'll tell him."

"Is she still on the phone?"

Shelley closed her eyes. She should have known he was avoiding her. He never took showers this late in the afternoon.

"I'll, uhm, I guess I'll just go."
