Tip #19: Always have a plan.

Kylie

June 18th, 2017

I awake to the clanking of metal dishes. A wonderful aroma fills my nose. Was that just a dream? With the bandits and being held captive? I open my eyes. The floor is wooden with a bunch of eggs, pancakes, and slices of bacon. My friends are sitting there eating quietly. With chains. "That wasn't a dream." I groan.

I scoot forward and grab a piece of bacon. The flavor quickly melts into my mouth. Its so good! I grab a bunch of eggs and shove them in my mouth. The eggs are very bland, but right now I could care less. Everyone else is eating fast too. They must know we have to eat fast, so we don't starve during the day. Martin and his thugs walk in, making the rest of the group clear the small bits left on the plate. "Alright, prisoners. Today we will be taking down the signals to lead people here. We don't want the military to find us." Martin barks

I tense up when he says 'military.' How does he know the military is watching? My eyes lock with Jack's. He looks paler than usual. Blood is seeping through his shirt. We need to get him out of here. Martin must notice us locking eyes because he stands in between us. Martin looks at me then turns to look at Jack. With his hands on his hips, he prances over to Jack. Martin touches Jack's shoulder. Jack begins to hiss. Martin pushes harder, Jack hisses louder. Martin keeps pushing more and more onto Jack's shoulder, who isn't hisses but yelping in pain. The air is heavy with the emotions swirling. Then a part of me comes undone. He can't do this to Jack, he is weak and isn't in the best condition. "Stop." My single word stops the yelping of Jack.

Martin turns around, looking at me. He marches over to me with his fingers soaked in blood. Jack's blood. Martin leans in, "Why's that, girly?"

My eyelid twitches, signaling my anger as I send daggers his way. "Jack hasn't done anything. If you do something to anyone, make it me."

Martin reaches in. His fingers that are soaked in blood dwindle across my chin. His face is really close to me. I pull my head back then front again. My forehead connects with Martin's nose with a sickening thud! Blood spurts out of his nose. My head hurts a little, but not as much as Martin's nose feels right now. Martin puts his finger under his nose, "I will go clean myself up, you boys take a rest."

Martin storms out. Jocelyn begins laughing. Nathan slowly follows as does the rest of the group. We all cackle. "I couldn't believe your face! It was priceless." Jocelyn mimics my face.

I laugh harder. Tears form in my eyes I am laughing so hard. We all begin to get serious. "You guys are going to do something important." I say

Jocelyn and Kaya are grinning when I say this. "What are we doing, Kylie?" Jack says weakly.

I smile, locking eyes with Kaya and Jocelyn. "Let Kaya and Jocelyn show you what to do."

Nathan begins to laugh, "Why can't you just tell us?"

"Because there are guys right around the corner, stupid." Jordan stops Nathan's laughter.

"Wow, Jordan. You just killed his dreams." Mikal snorts.

Martin returns with a piece of cloth over his nose. He smiles at me. "Boys, set hut!"

His thugs come running in. They stand side by side, looking at him like robots. "Graham! Unlock Pipsqueak and the chocolate one! Xavier! Unlock the feisty one! Willie! Unlock the bookworm and stupid blonde! Jeffy! You stay here with me."

The men go into action. Nathan and Mikal are unlocked. Mikal mutters something in the dudes ear. Xavier unlocks Jocelyn. Kaya and Jordan are unlocked. They are all put into handcuffs and disappear from my view. Its leaves Martin, Jeffy, Jack, and I. Martin comes over to me. He unlocks me then throws handcuffs tightly on my wrists. Worry flashes across Jack's pale face. "Jeffy, unlock him."
