A Centaurs Fate

War and Change

(It's been 2 years since that vow of vengeance on the humans....But little did I know how much worse my life could get.Right now I'm carrying another load of furs in a wagon back to David's Trading Post,except things were different,very different.When we got there David was sitting outside as soldiers were running in and out of the post carrying,food,water,clothes,and weapons....Soon they began to take the furs from John,but he did nothing to stop them.)

Soldier:Is this all you have to offer sir,that centaur of yours could be good for the war.

Coren:*A war?!What is he talking about,I thought it was over?...*

John:No!Please sir....I can give you more supplies,even more money,just please don't take them!

Coren:(I saw the soldier smirking,this can't be good...)

Soldier:So you have more of them?...How many?!

John:Three sir...But they're not fit for war...Only for light farm work that's all-

Soldier:Any centaur is good for any work!(The man shoved a piece of paper into his hand)Tell you what,give this a thought and you won't have to sell your centaurs,but refuse it and we'll take them and your supplies from you.You have till tomorrow.(Then the soldiers drove away in their wagons with the supplies and John went and sat down with David)

John:What am I gonna do?(He said rubbing the back of his neck and sighing)They want me to go to war.(He handed David the paper)If I agree they'll take the centaurs and return them when I come back....But if I disagree they'll take away everything from me....

David:(He took the paper from him)...I don't think you'll like it but....I think you should do it,it'll be better than loosing them forever.

John:Then promise me...Promise me that if I don't make it that you'll take them,all three of them!Is that a deal?(He reached out his hand to David's)

David:D-don't say that John...You're gonna make it,plus I can't just take them from you!-

John:Please,David....Just say that you'll take them in whenever you get the chance.

David:....I'd be honored,John....They'll be in good hands.

John:Thank you...(He then got up and got in the wagon)I'll see you after the war,David...

Coren:(He snapped the reins and I began to walk back to the house while David waved goodbye.I could feel that John was upset,but he didn't want to show it...I've learned over the years that he tends to keep things secret as to not hurt anyone else.Once we were back at thehouse John unhooked me to the wagon and took off the tack,he then put me in the field with Star and Rein as he went inside to think)

Rain:What's wrong with John...Did you kick him?!!

Coren:What?!No I didn't kick him!....He's thinking about going to war...

Rain:War?!Why on earth would he want to join?

Coren:It's the only way to keep us in his care,I overheard him and David talking about it.(Out of the corner of his eye he saw Star,who had grown stronger over the two years,but still had the kind and quiet soul he was born with)

Star:What are you guys talking about?

Coren:...We...We might not be staying here much longer....John might be going to war...and us with him...

Star:War?!!No I can't go there,I won't be able to match up with the other centaurs they'll have!The only thing they'll find useful to me is meat!

Rain:That's not true....They wouldn't kill a centaur in this time,they'd find a use for you.Even if it's not a good use.

Star:Why is he giving us away anyhow,I thought he didn't want to get rid of us!

Coren:Calm down,Star....John has no choice,he's going to loose us either way,except by joining and surviving after the war,then he'll get us back.

Star:And if he doesn't live through it,what'll happen then?!

Coren:David said that he would take us in,so don't worry....Everything will be fine.

Star:I'll believe it when I see it....

Rain:Why don't we go get some sleep....It'll be a long day tomorrow....

(The next morning they woke up at 3:00 by the sound of soldiers coming in the house and stables,taking the supplies and money they were promised.John and two others began to tack up the centaurs and took them to the captain.It was the same man who took him and his herd away,the armored soldier!)

Soldier:General Worrik,here are the centaurs you've asked for.

John:General...I want to tell you about the centaurs.Both the mare and the stallion are strong and good for work but they have a temper,as for the smaller one,he has no temper and is strong but I fear that he'll spook easily....Maybe if you were to give him an easier job?-

Worrik:(The man grabbed John by his shirt collar)Don't tell me how to use my centaurs soldier,they'll do whatever job I tell them.No matter how much temper or how spooked they get!(He looks at the three and soon notices Coren as he gives out a light chuckle.)The brown one and the pinto will be used for carrying the soldiers,the white one will be used for carrying supplies.Lets go!(He got into the driver seat of a wagon pulled by two centaurs)

Soldier:Yes,sir!(He leaded Star and Rain to their new riders,but Coren was to stay with John.Star was hitched up to a wagon with another centaur,as for Rain she was rode by the Generals second in command)

John:Alright boy,let's go.

Coren:(He snapped my reins as the group of soldiers and centaurs began to move down the road.I frantically began to look for my father...But I couldn't find him anywhere.I then looked in front of me to see Rain walking beside the generals wagon.I then look behind me to see Star's driver holding a whip,but by the look of the other centaur,and how he had no cuts or bruising,I believed that the whip was just for signaling,and not for pain.I breathed with relief as I looked at the road ahead of me)Please...I beg that we return home safely....
