Behind that Mask

Although I couldn't see his face behind that mask of his, I know I must have hurt his feelings.

It was mid-day, we stopped by a small creek. I was able to wash up, and he seemed to enjoy himself as well catching some fish.

"Gin?" I came up from behind him after washing up.

Gin surprised, jumped up and kept his distance, "I told you, I will disappear if I come into skin to skin contact with humans.."

"I'm sorry," I took some steps back giving him more space, "since you're a forest spirit, do you look like one under that mask?"

"..." He was silent again, which made my heart sunk. He slowly move his right arm towards the nose of the mask, and I gasp without thinking. He stopped, still holding his hand in place, "do you want to find out for yourself?"

"Y-yes, I mean n-no.. I-I don't know.. I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it, really! I did it without thinking.." I looked down apologetically.

He chuckled, and let go of the mask. I sighed heavily, and ate the fish once it was cooked.

After we were done eating, we walked again and we came upon a big meadow. It was breathtakingly stunning, and I stood speechless.

"Do you want to spend some time here?" Gin asked looking my direction.

"Yes, for a short while. It's really pretty here," I was in awed and ran across the field.  I can feel Gin watching me as I ran ahead of him.

I was enjoying myself in the beautiful scenery that I forgot about Gin. I was looking at the different types of flowers that grew here.

As I was walking aimlessly, I saw Gin laying on the grass.

Is he asleep? Do spirits sleep? Maybe I should check on him?..

As I thought to myself, I made my way to him. Although I got close to him, he didn't budge a muscle.

Maybe they do sleep?..

I wasn't sure anymore, so I sat on my knees close to his head. I bented over on all four looking down on his mask. He didn't budge either.

How does he look like under that mask? Should I take it off or should I keep it on? I'm scared, what if his face looks like something else that's unimaginable!?

I sat back down and debated with myself, and curiosity got the better of me. I put my fingers on both side of the mask, and hesitated for a few minute. I took a deep breathe, and slowly removed his mask to the right side. I leaned forward to take a better look at his face. My eyes grew wide, and gasped in surprise.

Omg, he's very handsome for a spirit!.. Silver hair, pale soft skin, nice long lashes extending out..

As I was having these thoughts, I was blushing a deep red, he slowly opened his eyes with a slight smirk on his face. I was so surprise at his sudden awaken that I slammed his mask back on.

"A-ah!! I-I'm so sorry!!" I sat back down and straighten my posture with both hands on my lap, and lowered my head.

At the same time, "ouch!" Gin rolled onto his right side after I slammed his mask on. He got up sitting across from me, and corrected his mask.

He chuckled, "you're a scary girl. Attacking me while I was asleep." He crossed his legs and settle his head on his knuckles.

"I-I'm so sorry! I was just curious how you would've looked like under that mask.." I glanced at him as my voice soften. I'm blushing from ear to ear at this point, and embarrassed as I averted my stare, "but you weren't really asleep, were you?.."

"I was joking. (Y/N), spirits don't sleep," he let out a heartwarming laugh.

I could feel my heart throbbing fast in my chest, and my face flushed. I held my hands to my chest, hoping to stop these feelings.

Being with him, I can feel his warmth. Although it's been a shirt time, my mind is already consumed by the thought of him and his gentleness..

SIDE NOTE: Gin laying on the grass, I got it from the movie, but I switched out the MC from the original movie, and add some of my own parts to it! I hope y'all enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing! ❤
