(This isn't going to be a oneshot, more like a two or three shot because there is a lot I want to do with this! I hope you enjoy!)
Magnus Chase's POV
So Odin was sitting around, watching Midgard TV, and thought to himself, how could I put more competition into my soldiers? Then The Hunger Games came on the TV and he had a spark of inspiration. So now we have the Valhalla games. I have read the whole Hunger Games Series twice, watched all four movies, and can proudly say that it's basically what we do every battle. The only thing different is that you are allowed to cower and run away, find food, shelter, water, etc. So basically every week there is going to be four games and this starting week our floor is in it. Yes, they will choose twelve girls and twelve boys for each arena, but then they pick out a random person who doesn't fit those two binaries and put them in too. Today is the choosing day, where everyone gets to watch on the TV's who, from each floor, will be picked to participate. Anyone not picked is free to do whatever they wanted for a couple of months until the games are over. The games will be over after the winners of previous battles go face to face, and whoever survives the longest wins. You had a day before the actual games to mentally prepare yourself and then you were thrown into chaos. Your floor is allowed to help you by sending you gifts while out in the arena, but only T.J. is willing to help me out if I get picked. Both Mallory and Halfborn are going to Hawaii if they don't get picked and Alex said maybe, which usually means no. So T.J. was the only person who could truly help me to survive in the games. All my friends, even Hearthstone, Blitzen, and Samirah, (Even though all three of them will not get picked) crowded around my TV to hear if we got in. None of us wanted to get into the games, and if we failed in the arena, you are given the deity of bad luck as a pet. No one wanted the deity of bad luck as a pet, and everyone wanted some vacation time. The funny thing is, the number of times your name was put into the drawing depended on how many people you have killed here at Valhalla. This meant I had much less than many of the people here, which made me hopeful. Odin was on the TV with a huge clear barrel, taller than him, with all of our names in it, standing next to him. We, as you know, are floor nineteen, which meant we had to wait until the first batch of people was picked for their games. I watched as a pair of twins from floor three were picked for the games, their actual names being Skull-crusher and Bone-breaker. Alex was sitting next to me, playing cats cradle with her garrote and somehow not cutting her fingers off. On the other side of me, squished together, where Hearthstone and Blitzen. They are just too cute together! Right now, as they watch the screen, Hearth is laying his head on Blitzen's shoulder, plus they were holding hands. I am pretty sure they are dating but won't admit it. Anyway, everyone else was sitting on my two other couches or standing up, pacing the room nervously (Sam was doing that because she wanted this to go quicker so she wouldn't miss her date with Amir). Mallory and Halfborn where fighting about which one of them would have the most fun in Hawaii although it was a dull subject. They had this idea they wouldn't get picked for the games, so they decided to plan this trip. I will laugh so hard if one of them does get picked so they can't have their romantic vacation. I was rereading the pamphlet Odin gave us, looking for some kind of loophole that could help me if got picked. It says that if I and whomever else from my floor survive together, we can win as a team. That might be handy if I get someone from my floor that I know. I barely know anyone else on this floor except for my friends that I have assembled here, but I did kind of know Ray Tag. Then I heard a booming voice on the TV.
"Now onto floor nineteen!" Yelled Odin.
Mallory and Halfborn instantly stopped there fighting, Alex stopped playing with her garrote, and we all stared at the screen with anticipation. I didn't know if Alex had put herself into the nonbinary group for names because she's genderfluid, so I had no idea when her name might be called right now. I often thought of the things we could do together if we didn't end up in the Valhalla games, but that wasn't important right now.
Odin opened the lid of the clear barrel while saying, "Lady's first".
"Oh, Shi-" Mallory almost cursed.
"Language," Halfborn scolded her.
"And the girl who will be fighting for her life from floor nineteen is Leia Organa!" Odin bellows.
Mallory sighs in relief but Alex intently watches the screen. I bet she is in the for the nonbinary one, which gets picked after the twenty-fourth person for this arena is picked. I fidget with my hands nervously, hoping I don't get chosen. Even if I do get chosen, I won't make it past the cornucopia and the inevitable blood bath that would be there. I take a deep breath, now it's time to see if I get to be murdered via the Valhalla games.
"And our man who will fight is Magnus Chase!" Odin says.
Oh no. Ohhhh no. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no. Crap. This won't go well. I'll die and get the deity of bad luck as a pet. Then I will never get to tell Alex I love her or tell any of my friend's anything because I would die before I even got to them. I really have a positive outlook, don't I? Everyone is staring at me with solemn faces. They know because I can't bring Jack that I will surely fail. Such supportive friends, don't you think? At least if I run away fast enough from the cornucopia and found myself in some woods I would know what to do. As you know I love the outdoors and am very skilled at camping. One time my mother forgot everything back at home and we slept in a pile of leaves under the stars. Alex put her hand on my shoulder with a worried look on her face.
"You okay? You're paler than usual," She says.
"I am happier than all of the happiest people in the nine worlds combined," I retort sarcastically.
She rolls her eyes and gives me a nervous grin, "Come on, we all know you could find a way to hide out in the woods, and find water, and food, and stay there until everyone else is dead!"
"Yeah sure," I say without any enthusiasm.
Sam cuts in, "Alex is actually right for once, your best chance is to grab a gear bag and run as fast as you can, you could book it into the woods, if there are any woods and do what you do best, run and hide".
I shrugged and looked at the floor. In the pamphlet, it says the first person to die in every Valhalla games will be sent to Hel. I just hope I can survive longer than one person. Ugh, this is so depressing. I don't even want to be in these stupid games anyway! Ugh, I sighed loudly and put my hands over my face. Alex still had her hand on my shoulder, probably not sure whether to comfort me or to chastise me.
Then she says, "At least try to survive, for us, not only because we want a longer vacation, but because the deity will hurt you, and ALL of us don't want to see you hurt".
