Chapter 4 (Nate)

I received a letter today, with my name on it; but couldn't help but wonder who knew I was at my friend's place Nathan. No one knew I was there. I would always escape for a breather - I heard my friend Nathan just broke up with his long time girlfriend and that was why his place was available for me to lounge at. This is a pretty decent place, just enough quiet for me to think things through, as my book launch will be just around the corner - couldn't help but feel so anxious about all the pressure of releasing yet another best selling book.

I opened the letter with my name on it. it had patches of tears as if whoever wrote it, wrote the letter under the rain. The hand writing did seem very familiar, it was like I have seen it somewhere but couldn't quite put my finger on where and when I saw it.

Halfway through reading the letter, I realized it must have been from Nathan's ex - I almost forgot he was called Nate too by his mom, that's probably why the letter was named Nate. I was gonna stop reading but couldn't help but finish the whole letter. I haven't seen anyone write such a heartbreaking letter, it was as if I could vividly imagine her writing it as tears came falling down her face and into the paper she was writing on. It was and intense letter, and I felt so bad for reading it.

Something in me just clicked - I seem to have found the right continuation to my unfinished story. I have been on writer's block for quite sometime, this is the first time in such a long time that I could actually imagine a character. To pay tribute to Sophie, I also named the character of my book as Sophie.

Before I headed back to continue writing, I folded the letter and neatly placed it inside of the envelope - placed it on the table where most of Nathan's letter were. He usually comes every Friday to pick up his mail - he probably wouldn't notice that I read Sophie's letter to him. If he does then I'll just have to tell him the truth.

I never really had the chance to meet Sophie. Nathan and I were friends, of course, but we never really were a fan of letting each other meet our girlfriends. We were more of like, we get together and just the two of us talking and catching up. We did not even bother each other to meet whoever we were dating. I knew they were together for the longest time, but something in me said that Sophie wasn't certainly the one Nathan would be settling down with - he just never had the courage to break up with her no matter how much he wanted to. Just until recently, where he had the guts to call everything off. But I never imagined she was this devastated - it's like you could actually feel her pain radiating from her letter.

Before I knew it the day has ended - gladly, I was able to finish at about 50 pages of my story. It's already 10 pm as of the moment, no wonder I felt so tired already. I've been working since 1pm this afternoon. After eating I must get an early shut eye, or else I wouldn't be able to sleep at all.
