Castiel grunted as he shifted the boxes in his hand. He pulled out the miniature silver key and twisted it into the lock of his new apartment.
"Need some help?" Castiel heard someone say behind him, and turned to face the stranger.
"Yes please." Castiel said, thankful for the offer. The kind stranger was very tall, probably about three inches taller than Castiel, and he had long brown hair that passed his chin.
"Here I'll take that box for you." The man offered, and Castiel shifted the box into his hands. He went back to unlocking the door, and the two walked into his new apartment. Castiel sighed happily, as he looked at his first apartment. The warm beige walls complemented the smooth stone tiles. He couldn't wait to move in.
"Thanks for the help. I'm Castiel." He put down his suitcase and reached for his helpers outstretched hand.
"You're welcome Castiel. My names Sam, and I'm your neighbor. Welcome to Hillside apartments." Sam gave a cool smile and looked around the room.
Castiel was glad to have already met someone in his apartment complex, and Sam seemed nice.
"So Castiel, would you like some help getting settled in? My brother can help, he lives on the other side of the hall." Sam suggested, glad to lend a hand to his new neighbor.
"Oh yes, thank you. All of my things are in my car."
Sam walked out of Castiel's door and across the hallway.
"Dean! Could you lend a hand? We have a new neighbor moving in!" Sam called as he knocked on the door. Within a second, the door swung inwards and a tall man appeared in the doorway. Castiel stared blankly. Dean was absolutely gorgeous.
"Uh-h-hello Dean. I'm Castiel..." Castiel took in the sight of Dean. Sam moved out of the way for Dean to shake Castiel's hand. "I'm your new neighbor." Castiel smiled warmly, hoping to make a good impression on the excessively attractive Dean.
"Hey Cass. I'm Dean. Sam's older brother." Dean shook Castiel's hand briskly, but before letting go, he rubbed his thumb over Castiel's fingers. Castiel blushed, and tried to hide his face before Dean could see how the contact had affected him. As Castiel turned red, Dean smirked. Before patting him on the shoulder and moving past him and down the hallway.
"Don't worry Cass, I think you'll fit right in here." Sam said as he motioned for Castiel to follow him and his brother out to the parking lot. Castiel smiled, glad to have such nice neighbors.
"Here, I'll take these two and you take these." Castiel pointed in the back of his car, before reaching inside. Dean stood behind him patiently. Castiel grunted and pulled two boxes to the entrance of the car. He lifted one and set it gently into Dean's waiting arms. His hand brushed over Dean's elbow and Dean stared deeply into his eyes. Castiel's heart was racing. Dean's iridescent green eyes were framed by a thousand freckles, and Castiel couldn't help himself as he stared back.
"Uh- I" Dean started, and he purses his pink lips together, stopping his words abruptly. Castiel grew nervous as the awkward and intense moment continued. He and Dean stood awfully close, and Castiel hadn't moved his hand fully away from Dean's arm, instead, he let his fingers smooth over the fabric of the soft flannel...
"Hey Cass? I brought up those three boxes. How many are left?" Sam barged into the scene, tearing the tense bubble asphyxiating the air between Castiel and his brother. Dean tore his stare away from Castiel and grimaced slightly, and Castiel couldn't help but notice Dean's disdain for Sam in that moment.
"There's- um. These four boxes are left, and there's one suitcase in the back." Castiel spoke absentmindedly, trying to reminisce the feeling between him and Dean before Sam had interrupted. Castiel's mind had faltered the second he had inadvertently touched Dean. Their intense stares had been electric and deafening. He wished it would happen again, but he turned to find Dean already at the entrance of the building. He let out a sigh, and Sam gave him a confused look.
Hours went by before they had finally finished unpacking Castiel's belongings. It was now about 7:30, and Sam was getting ready to leave for a doctors appointment.
"Hey Cass? You like this kind of movie?"Dean called out after Sam had left the building. Castiel turned around and blushed when he saw the cover of the movie. It was a romantic comedy, and an embarrassment.
"I uh... it's-" Castiel started before Dean moved closer and grabbed him by the arms.
"Shh. You don't have to be embarrassed angel. This is one of my favorite movies. Mind if I stay and watch it with you?" Dean seemed to be getting at something, and Castiel hoped for the best.
"Sure, I'll make some popcorn real quick." Castiel said, but he made no attempt to move, instead he allowed Dean to continue holding him gently in the living room.
"Great!" Dean chuckled, and Castiel was intrigued by the man's grin. He liked Dean a lot.
