Wonder Woman

Directed by: Patty Jenkins

    Genre/s: Fantasy/Science fiction

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

I remember seeing this shortly after it was released in cinemas. The following weekend, I was given the choice of seeing it again. I decided to see it a second time. One part of my "criteria" was that, with hardly knowing anything about the character, I would walk out of the theater, understanding everything that went on. I was happy to say, that yes, I could understand everything.

Now, to talk about the main character, Wonder Woman. I'm not sure about her comic book origin story, but I really like how they decided to have her as a naïve superhero. Wonder Woman thinks that the world is just black and white; That mankind is fighting each other all because of Ares (the main villain). But, as she comes to understand, she sees that mankind isn't just a simple race.

Steve Trevor is the second main character. He guides WW around WW1 and teaches her the ways of mankind. Sure, he is the love interest, but I like how they didn't make him useless, or not be able to fight back.

My final character review will be on the main antagonist, Ares. I think it was the day before I saw the movie for the first, I was reading some of the comments on YouTube from one of the trailers. Very annoyingly, someone spoiled it. However, when Wonder Woman killed the main suspect for Ares, I was very confused. Sure, the person who ended up being Ares probably wasn't the best choice, but oh well. I think that his motives for destroying mankind was a bit weak and could've been better. I like how he tried to trick/lure WW into helping him, as I think that is something most villains need to be: Muliputive.

The plot was your fairly average action movie plot: Save the world from someone/something destroying it. However, even though Ares was controlling mankind, forcing them to fight each other, I liked what Steve told Wonder Woman; Maybe mankind is just like that. Out of everything in the movie, I find that (smallish) speech to be the most powerful thing in the movie.

Some people say the the CGI wasn't very good, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I do think that there was a bit to much slow-motion in in the fight scenes.

As usual, the music was amazing, especially the theme. When the credits roll, the Wonder Woman theme just seems that more powerful.

Something I've noticed that a lot people are complaining about (among other things), is how Wonder Woman, who can speak 100+ languages, is not able to understand things in "man's world". Let me explain. SHE HAS NEVER, IN HER ENTIRE LIFE, BEEN AROUND SOMEONE FROM THE WORLD OUTSIDE OF THEMYSCIRA, NOR HAS SHE EVER LEFT THE ISLAND BEFORE. HOW DO EXPECT HER TO KNOW? That is only one thing people complain about. Another thing that a lot of people, specifically IMDb, is that, as strong and powerful as she is, Wonder Woman is naïve. I suspect that they deliberately did it like that, for character development.

There are a few more things I'd like to talk about, but it'd take to long, and I'm writing this on my phone, which is very restricted.

TL;DR:

Characters: 8/10

Plot: 6/10 (Like I said, standard action movie plot)

Message: 9/10

Music: 10/10

Overall: 9/10. This is a great movie, however, it does have its flaws. You should definitely watch it if you haven't already, as I'm sure you'll enjoy it just as much as I did.
