Trigger Warning: Death
Eliza smiled happily as she skated into a triple axle followed by a double toe loop, her movements slowly spelling out the name of her husband, Alexander, though she only spelled Alex as there was only so much room in the skating rink that her family owned. There was only one other person here, a man she didn't know but he stayed out of her way as he skated at a fast rate in a circle around the ring so she didn't mind his presence at all.
"Elizabeth!" She turned to see her elder sister, Angelica, skating towards her. Eliza smiled but it fell when she noticed the tears on her sister's face but before she could ask what was wrong Angelica said a quiet, "I'm so sorry...Alexander has been cheating on you for almost a year."
Eliza's heart dropped, "Wh-What?! That's not-no that-no..." She knew her sister wouldn't lie about that and she let out a strangled scream as she fell to her knees, "Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! Wh-"
"Eliza..." Angelica slowly went to her knees and hugged Eliza as tears fell from her eyes again, Eliza's own were almost drowning her, "You deserve better than him. He's been meeting some girl on Craigslist and Peggy found out and showed me and I-I needed to tell you."
She pushed Angelica off of her, "Go away!" She yelled and held her face, "I-I need some time so please...just go.." Angelica gave her one last sympathetic look before nodding and leaving her to contemplate the fact that Alexander had taken another to bed while continuing to promise Eliza he was hers.
"Betsy," Her head snapped up at that name and she glared daggers at the man with whom it had left the mouth of. That was Alex's nickname for her, always was, she used to love that nickname but as she got up with fire in her eyes she knew she would never view it the same, skating over to the edge of the rink where he was, "I don't know what Angeli-"
She cut him off before he could talk his way out of it as he was adept at doing, "What Angelica said? Or how much she'd said? Because she said a lot, you know. She once said she was glad I'd found somebody who kept me so happy, once she said you were her favorite brother-in-law, once she said we looked adorable together, there was a lot she's said you know, much about you." As she talked she knew Alexander was slowly realizing how much she knew, "Probably one of the most shocking things my sister ever said to me was that our younger sister found out you fucked other women over Craigslist. I thought you were mine!" She shoved him, "I thought you were mine! You said I was the only one for you! You said it! You're a liar!" She screamed and shoved him again.
Alex looked at her, almost scared before he grabbed her hands, "Eliza please, I still love you!" He talked over her yelling at him for being a liar and kept hold her her hands even when she tried to rip them out, "It's just-I have needs and I guess-guess you never wanting it anymore lead one thing to another and..."
"It's not my fault you can't keep it in your pants!" Eliza yelled and ripped her hands from him, stumbling back on her skates and falling down but she slapped his hand away when he offered it to help her up, "A relationship isn't just sex! It's love and communication and trust! I loved you, I talked to you! I-I tru-usted you!" She let her tears fall at this point as she broke even more inside, "You know what? No. Fuck you."
She got up and turned around, skating away for a swift moment before the man who was skating in a circle lost control of his skates at the wear and tear grew too much, his blade sliding off of his skate and plunging deep into Eliza's chest before anybody even had time to scream.
Alex was the first to respond when Eliza went down, blood trailing out of her mouth, her tears mixing with them. He ran on the ice as he didn't have skates and dropped by her side, wanting to apologize and tell her how much he loved her, to say goodbye even, but by the time he reached her she had already gone limp.
"E-Eliza?" He felt his own tears well up, "Oh-Oh my God." Alex looked at her chest, blood still dripping onto the ice and staining her beautiful skating dress, the skating blade halfway into her body, her chest had stopped moving and her eyes stared dully up at the ceiling with tears still painted on her pale skin.
He heard a second scream and turned to see Angelica racing over, dropping by Eliza and taking her from Alex, repeating things and pinching herself and Eliza, even smacking Eliza's cheek just to try and get her to react in some way.
Finally, Angelica looked at Alex as she held Eliza to he chest, "It's all your fault." She said icily as Alex's world seemed to crash, realization hitting him. It was his fault, it was absolutely his fault. If he hadn't done it, cheated, she wouldn't have been hurt or even if he hadn't instead tried to flip the blame on her for his cheating she would have kept yelling at him instead of turning and skating away.
It was his fault. All his fault. Even though the news and media would say she died in a freak skating accident he knew, the Schuyler family knew, the man who'd lost control of his old skates knew, it was Alexander Hamilton who caused the death of one of the kindest women in the world. She'd done nothing but love him, comfort him, be there for him, and to repay her he cheated on her and caused her so much pain and eventually her death.
He was the one to blame...
