“MATE, I’VE GOT HER,” a familiar yell sounded, steady hands cupping my cheeks and tilting my head up from where it lolled on my chest. “Brinlee, talk to me, love. It’s Liam. I-I’m here. I’ve got you now. He won’t hurt you.” I let out a small, cold laugh and let my eyes meet the coffee brown ones that haunted me for the past two and a half years.
“It’s too late for any of that, pretty boy,” I spat, bringing my foot up and kicking him square in the gut sending him reeling backwards.
“B-Brin?” he choked, clutching his side and staring at me in horror. Louis and Niall were suddenly by his side, helping him up and staring down at me, visage set in a shocked mask.
“Brinlee, i-it’s us,” Niall squeaked, crouching down beside me but staying a safe distance away. “We’ve come to help you, lass.” My heart clenched as I saw my friend’s eyes shining with tears as he inched closer.
“We’ll get you down from there, baby-“ Liam began and I struggled against my restraints, kicking wildly in an attempt to hit him.
“KEEP THAT BASTARD AWAY FROM ME!” I screamed, angry tears slipping down my cheeks.
“Okay, okay. He’ll stay away. He won’t touch you,” Louis said softly, taking Liam by the shoulder and pulling him back a safe distance. “No more screaming though, yeah? They’ll find out we’re here.” I nodded and let out a small sigh which they probably believed to be irritation, but was a genuine breath of relief.
“Get me down from here,” I ordered, my attention flitting to the movement under my jacket on the grungy mattress in the corner of the cement room.
“Yeah, luv. Of course, of course,” Louis said quickly, ignoring my tone and taking out a small knife from his belt. He slowly walked towards me, holding up the weapon in a surrender position in an attempt to calm me. “Alright, just stay still.”
His arm wrapped around my waist and gently lifted me so my body was no longer dangling from my arms. The rope binding them was cut and my weight was supported by Louis’ steady hold, the knife being tossed aside so he could use both hands to lower me onto my feet.
Pain shot through me but my face was kept in a solemn mask, not giving away any emotion as I strode to the bed without even a thank you.
“How long did they keep you like that?” Niall asked, following me with hands obviously ready to catch me if I collapsed.
“A while,” was all I snapped, moving my jacket down the slightest bit to reveal the bright blue eyes of a baby, her face pale and slightly sweaty. I quickly tore the fabric off of her before picking her up, my arms immediately protesting at the pressure.
“I know, baby,” I soothed as her lips puckered and quivered, no sound coming from her though. She was such a quiet baby; a good thing too considering Richard’s short temper.
“Br-Brinlee, sweetheart,” Louis said softly, shoving his weapons towards Liam and striding forwards. I flinched away and just like that he stopped, holding his hands up. “Sorry, sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you. I-Is she yours?”
Is she yours? One simple question that made my heart throb with a mix of affection and horror.
“It’s none of your business,” I growled, holding her closer to me. She whimpered the slightest bit and I found my insides twisting as her chubby hand grasped onto my tattered shirt.
