The day had been pretty uneventful. Everyone was busy taking care of chores the whole day. Logan had work to do on his computer. Virgil disappeared and locked his door for the whole day, Roman took to cleaning the house whilst humming Disney tunes, and Patton was in charge of all the laundry.
As sunset quickly drew near, Patton and Roman were at the table sorting through old papers and clutter around the house. Roman licked his finger to turn another page, and Patton fixed his glasses and concentrated. Roman sighed. Patton looked up at Roman. Roman had his head thrown back on the back of the chair, and sank down in his chair.
"I am so incredibly bored." Roman stated to Patton.
Patton nodded and stretched. "I honestly hate these days. So much work, high tempers, it's only a matter of time before someone explodes."
Roman sat up again and placed his cheek on his fist. "Pff, yeah. When Virgil finally comes out of his room, he's bound to just.... get on my nerves."
Patton raised his eyebrows. "See? Tempers."
Roman realised what he had said infront of Patton. "Sorry Pat."
Patton shrugged. "Want to go see a movie?"
Roman looked at Patton. "Sure, but good luck finding one we all agree on."
"Roman, I mean just us. Let's get out of the house for a few." Patton stretched once more.
Roman looked at Patton in surprise. Patton? Not wanting the others to join? How odd. Roman thought to himself.
"Sure. I'd love to get out of this house for a few hours."
Patton smiled and stood up, "We'll finish the papers when we come back."
Roman nodded and stood up, and stretched. "Alright. When do we leave?"
"Right now." Patton smiled and headed for the door.
Roman followed still confused as to why Patton didn't want everyone to join them. Patton loved the company of everyone. He never liked to do things alone. Maybe he wanted to leave Logan and Virgil alone for a bit. Roman and Patton were already put the door while Roman was lost in thought. Roman absent mindedly walked to the car and got in the passengers seat. Who knows what those two were doing around the house. After the fight yesterday, Patton left the logical traits room and Virgil hadn't come out for many hours. They were most likely spending time their time making out in private. Roman chuckled at the thought.
"What are you laughing about?" Patton asked Roman.
Roman shook his head "Oh nothing Patton. Just a silly little thought that's all."
Patton was driving at this point. Roman stared out the window as he often liked to do. Patton pulled up and parked in the mall parking lot. He turned off the car and unlocked the door to let him and Roman out. Patton locked the car back up and Roman followed him. They took one of the many entrances in to big mall. Roman got some odd looks for his prince outfit, but he ignored them, because he also got many compliments. Patton and Roman approached the movie theatre. They stared at the choices they had.
Lost Boy
Hazard
My little pony
The 4th wall
Kitten
Lucky: A Tale of Twins
Patton looked over the list and pointed to Kitten. Roman nodded. He wanted to see that one. It was about a stray cat in the time of witches and magic, seeing something she wasn't supposed to, and having a spell cast on her. Immortality and shapeshifting. Patton paid for the tickets.
Patton and Roman walked to the concession stand, and waited in line. When they got to the cashier they ordered a large popcorn and a large sweet tea. Patton wanted to carry the stuff but Roman told him no because he knew he'd drop it by accident. So, Roman carried the food, Patton was in charge of tickets. Patton held the tickets to the guy, and the guy took off the ends and told them their theatre number. Patton looked at Roman triumphantly. He had succeeded in holding the tickets!
"See that Roman?" He boasted "I took care of the tickets!" Patton smiled.
Roman chuckled. "Yes Patton, you did." Patton seemed off still. His smile wasn't as big.
Roman. And Patton walked to their theatre, 12. They were about to go in when Patton got a text. Patton looked at the screen and it read: Logan
You guys left such a mess on the table. Hope you're back soon so the clutter can be cleared. Virgil and I are heading out as well for a moment. We should be back soon.
Patton shut off his phone after typing a short okay. Roman and Patton made it just in time for the show to start. A little ways into the movie, a comical character was being introduced. Roman along with the rest of the theatre chuckled and laughed. Roman thought something was missing. He instinctively looked over to Patton. Patton had his head resting on his fist. He was staring blankly at the screen. Something painted his face that no one was used to seeing. A frown. Roman turned his attention back to the movie. Now he was growing concerned. What has bothered Patton. He turned back to the comical character. He wore a tie and always carried around a book. He was doubting that the main character was actually a cat. Roman thought nothing of it and kept watching the film.
After the movie, Roman and Patton threw away their trash. Patton wasn't smiling. Roman pretended not to notice.
"My my! What a lovely show, I thoroughly enjoyed it." He chuckled and smiled.
Patton only nodded and forced a small smile. Roman kept walking. Roman and Patton walked outside. It was starting to rain. Roman stopped behind Patton.
"Patton." Roman began. "What's wrong?"
Patton stopped and turned around. "What do you mean. Everything's fine." He forced a bigger smile.
"Patton I am serious. You didn't smile or laugh throughout the whole movie, and you've been in a slump ever since Logan and Virgil were attacked. Is that it? Are you worried about being attacked? Hurt?" Roman questioned the lovable trait.
"No Roman.... it's not that." Patton held his arms and looked down.
"Then what is it?" Roman asked again.
Patton thought about telling Roman. "Im just tired lately. No need to worry. I just needed a break from the work environment."
Roman nodded. "Ah yes, I understand that completely.'
Roman and Patton continued to walk to the car. On the drive home, Patton thought about lieing to Roman. He didn't like the thought. He and Roman struck up a conversation on the movie, and were laughing about their favourite parts. They were still laughing when they walked through the door together. They didn't even notice Logan and Virgil sitting on the couch.
Roman and Patton were deep in conversation as they headed up the stairs together. Logan and Virgil gave each other a look as they heard the twos voices grow louder as they walked to their separate rooms. Roman closed the door to his room chuckling. He started to change out of his wet clothes. He was pulling off his pants when a knocked sounded at the door and Virgil opened the door before Roman could say a word.
"Roman, Logan says you should-" He cut off and his eyes widened as he caught sight of the soaked half naked man.
"Virgil." Romans voice was oddly calm.
Virgil closed the door and talked through it. "Logan says you should not stay in your wet clothes no matter how tired you are, but it see,so like you've already started song that so, never mind!"
Roman heard the dark traits footsteps retreating quickly. He sighed, he didn't care, at the moment, that Virgil had walked in on him half naked. He was still thinking about Patton. He loved the lovable dad trait. They were close. Very close. Roman pulled on a sweatshirt and pajama pants. He opened the door and, was met with the sad face of Patton. His fist held up about to knock. Pattons sadness was only there for a second. It quickly disappeared before Roman could register the face of sadness. Patton smiled hugely at Roman.
"Pennies." He held up a penny.
Roman dramatically gasped and pretended to be afraid of pennies. "Oh no! The evil copper coin of death!" Roman smacked pattons hand but Patton closed his hand before the penny could fall out.
Patton and Roman smirked at eachother then Roman screamed and ran down stairs, Patton was in pursuit. Logan and Virgil jumped from their awkward silence on the couch, as Romans scream echoed through the house. Patton chased Roman around with the penny. Roman suddenly snatched the coin from pattons hand and smirked once more at Morality. Pattons eyes widened.
"Uh oh." As Patton turned to run away, he turned wrong on his ankle and cried out as the pain sent waves of shock to his brain.
Logan got up from the couch and walked over to the limping Patton. Patton looked at Logan. The sadness had returned. Logan took Patton's expression as the effect of his injury.
"Sit on the table Patton." Logan instructed.
Patton nodded and did as he was told. Logan took Patton's hurt foot gently in his hand, and lifted it up. It was starting to swell, much like Virgil's ankle. Logan got up and grabbed an ice pack from the fridge. Roman had walked away from the two, and went to sit by Virgil. Virgil in turn glanced at his crotch then scooted away from Roman. Roman tilted his head and looked at Virgil.
"Virgil, why are you scooting away from me?" Roman didnt miss the glance. And Virgil knew it.
He narrowed his eyes and spat his next words at Roman. "Because I have a bad history with that thing."
Roman closed his eyes and his body shook. He held in the laughter that so desperately wanted to come out.
Back on the table, Logan was holding pattons ice pack on his foot. Patton leaned close and whispered to Logan.
"You know, I know how to take care this myself. I could have gotten the ice pack." Logan raised his head to look at Patton.
Their faces were extremely close, and pattons cheeks had a slight pink tinge to them. Logan wasn't as good as catching the little things go as Roman was.
He moved his head away as he talked. "Yes I know, but you do so much for us," He took the ice pack off, "We should start doing more for you."
Logan held out his hand for Patton to take. Patton took logan's hand and slid off the table. He slowly put pressure on his injured foot. He felt slight pain but it was tolerable. He smiled at Logan. The corner of Logan's lips went up in a half smile. Patton still held onto Logan's hand. After his returned smile, Logan let go of Patton's hand and went to sit in between the bickering pair that were perched on the couch.
Pattons hand tingled from when Logan had touched it. He went to join everyone on the couch. Roman was still holding in laughter, and Virgil was hissing at him.
"What?! What's so damn funny!" He snapped at Roman.
"Hey, Virgil, your language please!" Patton told Virgil off.
"Sorry... but this happy buffoon keeps laughing at me." He glared at Roman.
Patton looked at Roman questioningly.
Roman looked back at Patton and said " Bad History."
Patton broke out in laughter. Roman and Patton laughed at the I side joke between the two of them. Logan and Virgil went back to being confused. Patton and Roman held back their laughs. Patton sat down on the floor under Romans feet. Logan took up a new position next to Virgil on the couch. Logan picked up the remote and turned the TV on to pick a show for them to watch.
The four traits sat and watched TV until one by one, they fell asleep. All except Patton. When Patton realised that everyone was asleep, he crept to his room, the sadness returning. Little did he know, Roman had is eye cracked open, and watched Patton retreat back to his room. Roman opened his eyes and sighed as Patton left the area. He now knew Patton wasnt letting on what was really bothering him. Roman decided not to press him. If Patton wanted to express what was bothering him, he'd tell him when we wanted to. Romans eyes grew heavy and he fell asleep.
