Maya's POV

"What if they hate me?" I ask Riley as her and I stand in line at the grocery store. We had been sent out at the last minute to get more stuffing. Josh had run out while he was cooking and it was the dish we were bringing to the festivities at his parent's house.

"Maya you've met them all before" she chuckles as she brushes her hair out of her eyes.

"Yea I know that" I sigh. "But that was before Josh and I were dating. When I met them it was just as your best friend."

"And what's the difference now?"

"I'm dating Josh."

"And?"

"Ugh Riles" I groan as our turn comes up in line. We place the three boxes of stuffing onto the conveyer belt and wait for the cashier to scan them.

"Maya you're being ridiculous" Riley insists. "You love my uncle and he loves you. Nothing else matters" she insists as she hands over her debit card to the cashier. "Everything will be fine" she assures me.

"I hope you're right" I sigh as I grab the bag. "Let's go."

"Moesha" Eric exclaims when I walk into the Matthews' house with Josh's hand on my back. I chuckle as Josh's brother walks towards us. "It's about time Josh finally got over himself and asked you out" he adds making me chuckle as Josh rolls his eyes.

"I didn't need to get over myself. Where are mom and dad?" he asks curiously as he looks around the room. Morgan is leaning against the fireplace talking to Auggie and Cory, and Riley and Lucas are sitting on the steps.

"With Pangers in the kitchen" he says motioning to the room behind him. "They've been waiting for you both to get here. They're pretty excited."

"Yea okay" Josh sighs, rubbing my back. "Thanks bro" he sighs as he brushes past him, leading me into the kitchen.

He pushes open the door and immediately I'm enveloped in the smells of Thanksgiving and laughtet coming from the three adults gathered in the space. "Hey guys" Josh says, calling attention to us.

Topanga looks up and her face lights up. "Maya" she exclaims as she wipes her hands on her apron while she rushes towards me.

"Hey" I laugh softly as I allow her to pull me into a hug. "Happy Thanksgiving" I smile as Josh puts the stuffing on the counter and moves to greet his parents.

I pull away from Topanga and turn my attention to Amy and Alan. "Mom. Dad. You remember Maya right?" Josh asks hopefully as he looks at me adoringly.

"Riley's friend right?" Alan asks causing Amy to scoff as she hits her husband with an oven mitt.

"And Josh's girlfriend" she rolls her eyes as she moves towards me. "It's nice to see you again sweetheart."

"You too" I breathe out in relief.

"Good" Josh smiles. "I uh, I'm gonna go get us settled in. You gonna be alright?" he asks as he moves towards me and slips his arm around my waist.

"Mhm" I hum. "Just don't be long" I add. He gives me a soft smile and nods before walking off towards the upstairs.

"So you wanna help with dinner?" Amy asks politely.

"I-."

"Mom" Morgan laughs as she waltzes into the room. "Do not bore our guest with cooking. Come on Maya" she insists. "We're playing some teen quiz game from when my brother was a teenager."

"Um" I stutter, unsure if I should turn down Amy's offer. Topanga laughs and waves me off.

"Go ahead honey" she insists. "We got this" she assures me. I shoot her a polite smile before Morgan grabs my arm and pulls me off towards the living room.

"The stuffing is delicious" Alan comments as he shovels a forkful intk his mouth.

"Thanks" Josh smiles as he reaches for my hand under the table. "I couldn't have done it without Maya" he adds sweetly as he leans down to kiss the top of my head.

"You're adorable" Morgan gushes. "Any future plans?" she asks with a quirk of an eyebrow.

"Well I do-."

"Yea" Josh cuts me off taking me by surprise. We had talked about the potential of committing long term but we hadn't laid out any specifics.

"What?" I ask in confusion.

"What?" he smiles, squeezing my hand. "Maya I couldn't live without you. You're everything to me. I know it took me a little bit to finally ask you out but I've known for a long time that you were the only girl for me."

I stare at him speechless. I look aroind the table and find Riley almost in tears, Morgan recording, Auggie looking around confused, and the adults showing a look between shock and happiness. I look back to Josh and take a deep breath. "What are you saying?" I ask softly.

His smile deepens as he stands up and pushes out his chair before reaching into his back pocket. He pulls out a black velvet ring box and gets down on one knee and all the oxygen leaves my lungs. "Josh" I whisper in shock as tears rim my eyes.

"Maya Penelope Hunter. I love you more than anything and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

He opens the box and my tears begin to fall as I bring my hand to my mouth to hold in my cries. "I uh" I stutter. "I need a minute" I stutter as I brush past him and rush up the steps.

A light knock on the door causes me to turn around and wipe my eyes as Josh walks in. "So" he sighs. "I guess I kinda sorta freaked you out huh?"

I shake my head vigorously. "No" I insist. "You didn't. I just" I sigh as I sit down on the edge of his bed. "My parents got divorced. Shawn and my mom have been married less than five years. Josh" I chuckle. "I don't know how to be a wife. How to be a mom. I look at your family and I just. I don't know if I can be this person."

"Maya" he says softly as he walks towards me. He kneels in front of me and takes my hands in his.

"You are what I want. I don't want a replica of my mom or my sister. I want you. I love you. I know you've been through hell in your life and I know that your experience with marriage isn't great but" he smiles, squeezing my hand. "I want to show you how amazing marriage can be. I'm going to love you forever. The thought of living without you kills me."

"I just don't wanna disappoint you."

"You could never" he insists. "Marry me."

I chuckle as I lean down and press my lips to his in a soft kiss. "Yes" I murmur as we pull apart.

"Yea?" he asks excitedly. I giggle while nodding my head vigorously.

"Yes" I repeat enthusiastically. "Yes. Yes. Yes" I continue on and on as I lean back in to kiss him.
