I looked to see a struggled look on Shiro's face. Shiro opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, Keith started whimpering. I looked at him and saw he was crying.
"Keith? What's wrong?" I asked. He didn't wake up or answer, and Shiro and I exchanged worried glances. I gently shook him to try and wake him up.
"Keith, wake up." I said. I went to shake him again when he didn't respond, but I stopped when I realized something wasn't right. Keith's face was beaded with sweat and his nails were gripping his arms. He looked a little green in the face - not like physically green, but like, sickly green - and he was shaking. I felt his face and his fever was definitely spiking. He felt a million degrees hotter than a few minutes ago. I physically winced when I felt his forehead.
"His fever's spiking..." I whispered. Shiro couldn't hear me, because he kept shaking Keith's shoulder to wake him up. I held his arm back.
"Shiro, stop." I say. Shiro stopped shaking Keith when he heard the worry in my voice, but Keith still looked in pain and... sad. There were tears running down his face, and he was whimpering and sniffling on his side. Shiro and I stared at him for a moment, then I rubbed his leg soothingly.
"What are you doing?" Shiro asked.
"This usually helped my younger siblings when they were having fevered nightmares." I responded, and surprisingly enough, my idea worked. After a couple minutes of Keith whimpering, I could hear his soft breathing again, signaling he went back to sleep. I let out a sigh as I smiled and kept rubbing his leg, afraid that if I stopped, he'd wake up. Shiro stared at me in shock.
"How did you know that would work?" He whispered loudly.
"I didn't," I answered. "I just did what came to mind." I looked down at Keith and blushed a little. He looked adorable when he was sleeping - Wait, lance stop thinking that! You're straight as a pole!
A straight, somewhat bent pole...
Crud.
"Umm, Shiro, could you make sure he's okay while I'm gone? I gotta... use the bathroom." I say. Shiro looks at me confused for a second, but then nods, and I sprint out of the room, running my hands through his hair.
Why did he think Keith looked cute?
What is wrong with him?
Why was his heart pounding out of his chest?
He was straight! He was the biggest flirt there was! But then again he'd unknowingly used multiple pickup lines on Keith because he wouldn't get them and lance would find them funny, but...
Then I remembered something; when I was looking at Keith when he'd started gripping his arms, I saw faint, white lines across his wrists. I didn't want to think that they were what i thought they were, but... they were scars. He felt terrible for not noticing, but how was he to know? Keith was secretive, even if he was kind, fun, brave, courageous, caring, smart, hot, and -
Shit.
Lance had a crush on Keith...
