What was going on?
Jackie pressed her phone against her chest, "Don't answer the door. I'm not sure how he knew, but Jin said to not open the door to anyone."
You gulp, nodding as you took a seat across where Taehyung had sat hours ago. The knocking persisted and you wrapped your arms around yourself, trying to remain calm.
"Open the door!" A gruff voice came from outside your apartment room. It sounded determined, yet irritated.
"Just pretend we aren't here," Jackie whispered, having hung up on Jin after saying her goodbyes.
"I know you're in there," the voice said, it was a man, "and you can't hide him from us."
Him, you thought, who was him?
"He can't hide in America forever. We know that he's working with the opposing agencies and has been leaking multiple files. It's time that Kim Taehyung be arrested for his crimes," the man persisted, banging his fist on the door.
Your eyes widened in shock at his words.
Taehyung was a criminal?
You thought of his warm eyes and welcoming smile, how he never hesitated to give a hug. He was always there, even if you hadn't known much about him. His company meant a lot to you.
He couldn't be a criminal.
"You're wrong! Taehyung would never betray someone," you responded, walking towards the door. You weren't going to open it, but you could at least defend Taehyung's dignity from this side of the wall.
"So you finally decided to show yourself, Y/N," the man chuckled.
"How do you know my name?" You grit your teeth, ignoring Jackie's protests for you to 'shut up.'
"The agency has a lot of people working under its name," the man replied. "But that's besides the point! Let me in and show me Taehyung."
"What are you going to do with him?" Your fists clenched at your sides, putting you into an defensive stance.
"We'll be taking him back to the agency where he'll have a trial and get charged for his misdemeanors." You heard shuffling from the other side of the door.
"Is there more than just one of you? And what is this agency you speak of?" You stepped back from the door, grabbing your car keys from your purse. You made sure that the longest key was sticking out and was in your grasp similar to that of a knife's.
"Don't bother," another voice said, deep and rich. "I can hear your car keys jiggle in your trembling hands, and darling, that won't be nearly enough to keep us all back."
Call the police, you mouth to Jackie. She nodded and took her phone out of her pocket, walking as far away from the door as quietly as she could to make the call.
"Our agency," the same voice continued, "is one that is none of your concern. Just let us take Taehyung and we won't be a bother to you."
"And if we resist?" You took a deep breath as you awaited their response.
"Then we'll have to kill you."
You swallowed your nerves, trying to calm your racing heart. But to no avail, it kept beating faster and faster and faster.
"We're spies, honey," a new voice added. It was as sweet as sugar. "Don't be surprised if we can make your demise look like an accident."
You were still skeptical of their words, but if what they were saying was true, then it made sense. If Taehyung was really a spy hiding from his organization, that would explain his agitation, the papers, everything.
