In most musicals, there's an antagonist
In Hamilton, it's mainly Burr
In Heathers, it's J.D.
In Be More Chill, it's the Squip
So I ask you guys,
Who is the antagonist in Dear Evan Hansen?
In your opinion, I mean.
Because I don't think there is one, or that there's supposed to be one
And if there is, I think Evan is his own antagonist.
I mean, think about it,
The real Connor isn't around enough to be considered one
Jared hides his insecurity and his feelings with fake confidence, causing him to act like some sarcastic asshole
Alana is just trying to help Evan and the Connor project
Zoe is trying to get over her brother's death(And never really does anything that I consider bad)
Heidi and Cynthia are trying to be there for their kids
And Larry didn't know what to do, or how to help Connor
But Evan, on the other hand,
He lied to almost everyone. He was constantly telling himself that everyone would hate him if he told the truth. He just left Heidi, Alana, Jared, and the Connor project as a whole when he got the chance, and when things went wrong, he came back because everything was falling apart for him.
Sure, he told the truth in the end,
Sure, everyone forgave him eventually,
But still
He seems more like the antagonist, than anyone else does.
Idk, this is just something that's been on my mind.
