Hazelnut Soup

Mother Gothel's POV

I was beyond frustrated. All of my army that had taken a lot of time and magic energy had perished, and now I was stupid enough to release one of the powerful spells of the book that Hades gave me.

Throwing my leather satchel on the scratched wooden chair at my house, I stomped over to my tiny room with the cursed book in hand. For the time being, I lived in a broken down and abandoned cottage at the edge of the woods. I remembered about the wound that the cursed soldier had given me and I rummaged through my dresser, trying to find my last roll of bandages.

I had wrapped my leg in the white cloth and flipped through the old book. Many different curses and spells were in the book, sorted by different categories like summoning, demon forms, poison spells, and even more.

I laughed when I saw the spell for incorporating deadly poison into food. Remembering the bowl of soup that I had given Eugene while he was in my "hospitality" I hoped that he had actually eaten it. I knew how gullible he was.

My stomach growled in hunger. I looked up at the clock, and it was actually close to dinner time. Heading into the small kitchen, I prepared myself a bowl of hazelnut soup and topped it with a handful of roasted hazelnuts. When I sat down at the table, I frowned and stared at my food. It had always been Rapunzel's favorite food, and whenever I wanted to give her a treat, I would make that dish.

Trying to ignore that fact, I dipped my spoon into the broth and ate in complete silence. When I had finished, I walked over to the sink. The window above the sink was dirty, just like the exterior of the house. If it wasn't dirty, it wouldn't have blended in as an abandoned cottage.

*snap*

I jerked my head up towards the window and lowered the blinds quickly, but silently. Peeking through a gap in the blinds, I saw a woman in a maroon cloak, one similar to the one that I used to wear. I quietly dashed back to my room and grabbed my prized dagger. A tattered ribbon was tied around the handle, and I clutched it in case anything happened. I hid behind the counter and waited.

The lock on my front door had broken a long time ago, withering away from the amount of rust on it. I saw the woman creep through, trying her best to be silent, but miserably failing. Her hand rested on something hidden in the folds of her cloak, and I wondered what it was.

Sighing, I realized it was my time to strike. Jumping out from behind the counter, I got a glimpse of her face. I didn't recognize it at first. Brandishing my dagger in front of me, I shouted defiantly, "Who are you?!"

She jumped in shock and pulled out a long sword from its holster. She had a slender body, though looking a bit fuller because of the cloak. Her auburn hair was pulled up into a high ponytail with curly bangs framing her face. A lavender dress adorned her body, with some orange sandals. The woman had a leather belt hanging loosely on her tiny waist, also holding the holster for her sword.

Mother Gothel looked at the woman's face closer and it finally dawned on her as to who she was.

"Megara?"
