It's been a couple of months since Y/N moved next door to Peter. The two have become so ridiculously close and are usually never seen without the other. Both had harbored feelings for each other since the day they met but were both too shy to do anything about it. Ned Leeds thought about how stupid the two smartest people in school actually were. It was painfully obvious to anyone who saw them together that they were in love but apparently it wasn't obvious to them.
"Peter, I swear if you don't stop distracting me while I review, I'm not gonna speak to you for a week!" Y/N screamed. Peter knew she was more than ready to ace the test and thus, tried to distract her.
"Y/N, you've got this down. You studied harder for this than any of us." Peter gestured to him and Ned.
"Parker's right, Y/N. You're going to do great." Ned said.
"It's just, you know that I'm scared of failing." Y/N admitted and looked down at her mountain of notes. Peter knew of her fear and had always did his best to comfort the love of his lif- uh or rather his best friend.
"Hey," Peter brushed away the curtain of hair that covered her face. She turned to look at him. The two looked at each other with so much love that Ned had to turn away as he felt that he was watching something he shouldn't have. "You studied for this. You know what to do. You got this. If anyone can ace this it's you. You're the smartest person I know."
Ned let out an obnoxious cough. The two looked at him. Peter looked annoyed and Y/N (a little red in the face) looked amused. She had a little smile on her face and he was glad to have made her smile. "I think you're forgetting someone here Parker." He pointed at himself. Peter rolled his eyes.
"You're an idiot."
Y/N placed her hand on top of Peter's to get his attention. The boy's heart beat faster and he turned to her.
"You're the best, Pete." She leaned forward and placed a kiss on Peter's cheek. Ned smirked when he saw his friend's face turn red.
"S-sure." Peter stuttered. Y/N smiled and went to put her stuff back in her bag. "We're still walking home together, right?"
"Yup, I'll meet you at the front door." Peter said.
"Tell that to the last 3 times you said 'you'd meet me at the door'." Y/N mumbled under her breath but due to Peter's enhanced senses he heard her.
"I said I was sorry about that!" Peter exclaimed. His duty as Spider-Man sometimes put a strain on their relationship but Peter couldn't exactly tell her what he'd been doing when he was supposed to walk home with her. Y/N scrunched her eyebrows in confusion as to how he heard her.
"I know," She sighed, hearing this excuse one too many times but she knew she couldn't stay mad at him for long. Love is weird that way. "Just...show up later, 'kay?" Peter nodded not wanting to upset her any longer.
"You joining us, man?" Peter asked Ned.
"Nah, I wouldn't want to be your third wheel." Ned lied, knowing the two wanted to be alone. Peter and Y/N blushed.
"But you won't be! Come on we-" Peter stopped. His spidey senses started tingling. He turned around, looking for where it was strongest. Peter knew he had to go now. He locked eyes with Ned. Ned nodded, understanding that he had to cover for his friend.
"Peter, you okay?" Y/N asked.
"Y/N, I need to go okay?" Peter stood up and grabbed his backpack and was about to run away when Y/N grabbed his hand.
"Wait, where are you going?" Y/N eyes pleaded with Peter. This had not been the first time he left without an explanation. Peter wanted to tell her. He really did. But he couldn't risk her life by putting this burden on her.
"I'll see you later!" Peter held the back of Y/N's head and pulled her close to place a kiss on her forehead. With that, he ran off to fight whatever crime was calling him.
She turned to Ned. "Are you gonna tell me what that was about?" Ned shook his head. Y/N sighed. "Thought so. I worry for him sometimes."
"He can take care of himself. Don't worry. C'mon, let's go to class."

Y/N waited by the door, tapping her foot impatiently. She stared at her phone and saw all the messages she left Peter. And yet, not a single reply. She tried to call him one more time but it just went to voicemail. She rolled her eyes and decided it wasn't worth her time. She turned around and decided to look for Ned to see if he wanted to walk with her going home. When she turned around, she bumped into someone and caused her to drop her things. She sighed and bent down to grab her books.
"I'm sorry. Let me help you." The person bent down in front of her and saw a rather attractive guy looking at her. She was stunned by the blue of his eyes, much different from Peter's brown ones. He handed her the rest of her books.
"Thank you. Sorry I bumped into you. I was kinda distracted." Y/N apologized.
"You're apologizing? I should be the one apologizing for making you drop your things." The boy scratched his neck.
"It's fine really." The girl reassured.
"No it's not," The boy insisted. Y/N raised her eyebrow. "How about I make it up to you? Have a coffee with me?"
Y/N bit her lip to stop the smile that was forming. All thoughts of Peter were gone. "But I don't even know your name."
The boy turned red and held out his hand. "I'm David."
"Y/N." She took his hand. The two stared at each other. "So, coffee right?"

Peter ran up the stairs of the school where he knew Y/N would be waiting but quickly realized that she was nowhere to be found. He fumbled for his phone and saw that he had about a dozen missed calls and like 20 texts. He cursed under his breath. He was late again. His mind began to go wild and thought of all the bad things that could have happened to her.
Peter started to race home to their apartment building. He burst through his front door, greeting May on the way. Throwing his bag on his bed, he climbed out of the window and made sure nobody was watching before he crawled on the walls to Y/N's window. Peter tried to open her window but found that it was locked. He decided to just sit out by the fire exit until Y/N got home. It felt like hours waiting for Y/N but when the door to her room opened, Peter shot up and pressed himself against her window. She didn't seem to notice him by her window as she put her bag by her desk.
"Y/N!" He shouted. Y/N jumped and looked at her window. Her surprised eyes turned angry when she saw Peter. She approached him and unlocked her window, letting him in. Peter crawled in and walked over to her.
"I went to school but you weren't there anymore and I got scared." Peter said slowly, testing Y/N's mood.
"You were late. Also, I was with someone." Y/N crossed her arms, a small smile tugging at her lips at the thought of the new boy.
"With someone? Who?"
"A boy," Peter's heart stopped. "I ran into him and he offered to get me coffee as an apology for running into me. He walked me home too. He was really sweet." Y/N thought about how David could never live up to Peter but also knew that Peter would never feel the way she felt for him.
"Oh," Peter's heart broke. He knew that, one day, some guy would snatch up Y/N. And, even though Peter wished it would be him a part of him knew that that wasn't the case. "Well, I'm glad you didn't have to walk back alone."
Words that were unsaid hung in the air as the tension, that was never there between them, grew.
Peter coughed. "I-i should go. I remembered that I need to do some homework due tomorrow and I haven't started any of it."
"Oh, yeah, of course. I'll see you tomorrow, Pete." Y/N smiled sadly.
"See you." With that, Peter crawled out of the window and started to think of how to move on from the girl of his dreams.
