There was an ethereal glow in the ravenclaw common room that night. The soft light of the moonlight silently streamed into the room through a crack in the curtains. The fire cracked and popped, giving off a nice supply of warmth to the two bodies occupying the space.
The record player gave a light hum of background music as it played a soft tune from a record brought by one of their housemates. They were snuggled close together on the couch and smiling softly at one another. Her eyes held a bright twinkle in them as she peered into his brown ones.
The light from the stars outside combined with the fire inside casted shadows on his face, making her realize just how beautiful he was. There was no need for words to be spoken or for a conversation to be had. They just laid there completely absorbed in the presence of each other.
One of his hands moved to her hair, twisting and twirling his long fingers in it. She gave a rather content sigh and closed her eyes, resting her forehead on his chest. He tilted his head down to press a chaste kiss to the top of her head, his lips lingering for a moment.
"You know," she hummed, letting her voice trail off. Her fingers traced patterns on his chest as she pulled her head back to look at his eyes again.
"Hmm..?" he mused, quirking an eyebrow at her. Her lips were curved up into a sleepy smile as she trailed her fingers up and down the dips and curves of his arms.
"You know, we really should've kept studying for that Charms exam tomorrow," she said, her mind trailing off to the discarded textbooks and parchment resting on the table by the couch they lay on.
"Oh to hell with it. I've got better things to do right now," he spoke, kissing the tip of her nose while she let out soft giggles.
"Oh really? Like what, Parker?" she accused teasingly, a smile still playing on her lips.
"Like laying here with you," he mumbled, moving his hands to her hips and pulling her body closer to his. He pressed another kiss to the top of her hair.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. It's s'much more important."
"You're a goof, Parker. You know that?"
"Yes, but I'm your goof, Mrs. Parker," he responded using the teasing nickname their friends had begun to use for her ever since fifth year. Her cheeks burned at the mention and she couldn't bite back the grin creeping in and forcing her small smile to grow. They were silent for a little bit more, just letting the soft music from the record player occupy the air.
After some time, the song changed and (Name) sat up, her eyes full of excitement. The boy lying next to her raised an eyebrow, sitting up as well.
"Not trying to study again, are you?" he cheekily asked. She turned to face him, shaking her head a her mouth curving upwards, giving him the hint of a smile as giggles fell from her lips.
"No, no, nothing like that."
"Well then what is it?"
"Dance with me," she spoke, her voice suddenly barely grazing a whisper.
"What?" he asked, seeming a bit taken back by her offer.
"Dance with me, Pete," she repeated, her voice a tad bit louder. The same sleepy smile played on her lips as he stared at her. She playfully rolled her eyes before standing up in front of him and offering her hand for him to take. His larger hand slipped into hers and he stood up in front of her. She tugged him over closer to the record player to hear the music better and looked up at him.
Her arms made their way around his neck while his slid around her waist. She smiled up at him and gave a slight laugh at the reality of them slowly swaying to a record in the early hours of the morning with the moon and a crackling fire being the only sources of light. He smiled back down at her, intoxicated on his infatuation for her.
His eyes flickered from hers to her lips and she gave a small smile, subconsciously nibbling on her lower lip. Peter found himself dipping his head down to meet her lips while she slowly inched up onto her toes to meet him halfway.
The song playing in the background sounded more prominent as the outside world was drowned out by the chemistry between them. Their lips brushed against each other and their eyes slowly began to flutter shut.
this magic moment // while your lips are close to mine // will last forever // forever till the end of time
At this, she pushed up fully onto her toes causing their lips to fully press against each other. His soft lips seemed to melt into hers and a hint of a smile was detected across his features as they kissed. Her fingers played with the hairs at the nape of his neck while his arms pulled her closer against him. She broke apart from him, her fingers still twisting his brown locks around her fingers with a smile on her face. She looked down and pressed her cheek against his chest.
"I love you," she whispered, her smile still prominent on her features.
"I love you too, darling," he smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of her head.
Peter had never been one for dancing until that night. It wasn't until he saw her with her hair a slight mess and the twinkle of her eyes more prominent while the sleepy smile on her face was accented by the starlight outside. It wasn't until he saw her sway to the music, a grey pair of sweatpants rolled at her waist clinging to her hips and one of his navy sweaters hanging off one shoulder.
It wasn't until he stood there, his chin on top of her head and a sleepy, content smile on his face did he realize that he could like dancing a bit more if it was with her.
