"Hey, are you still coming over to finish the chem project?" Peter's voice was a whisper, in hopes that their teacher didn't catch him. (Name) awkwardly gave a half shrug and nod.
"Yeah, sure," she whispered back, trying to maintain her focus on the notes the teacher kept writing on the board. She felt awkward going over to Peter's apartment after school. It wasn't that they weren't friends-they were great friends actually, but only inside the chemistry classroom it seemed.
She wasn't sure why that was but she also never made it a point to fix it. That was probably part of the reason why her walk with Peter from their last stop on the train to Peter's apartment was so awkward for them. Their hands awkwardly brushed against each other's every so often, causing their eyes to widen and cheeks to flush.
It was probably why she felt so weird sitting on the floor of his small bedroom. If Peter noticed how awkward and weird she was being, he chose to ignore it. They worked quietly together for a few hours until her phone buzzed beside her.
Her eyebrows furrowed together and then relaxed as she read the text from her mother, asking her to come home.
"Everything alright?" his voice was hesitant, but she ignored it. (Name) nodded her head, humming a yes and packing her stuff up.
"Do you want me to walk you home?" he had to awkwardly clear his throat, unsure of how to talk or ask questions outside of their typically cold chem classroom. Her back was to him when she stopped, eyes widening. She turned her body slightly and flashed him a reassuring smile.
"No, it's alright. I'll be okay on my own," she shook her head and Peter nodded, watching her walk out the front door. Peter waited a few minutes before changing into his suit and crawling out his bedroom window.
He swung around the city aimlessly for nearly 30 minutes before stopping on top of an apartment building. He pulled his mask off of his head, letting it hang in his hands that rested in between his legs. His eyes searched through the rooftops in front of him and the alleyways below.
He assumed it was just going to be a slow night and allowed himself to sit on the roof for a few more minutes. The city lights twinkled like the stars in the sky and he found himself in a familiar awe at the sight. Peter's legs swung back and forth over the edge of the building.
He was losing himself in his thoughts when the hairs on the back of his neck and arms stood up. Slightly alarmed and confused he stood up on the rooftop and pulled his mask over his head. Peter strained his ears for any sort of noise he could hear.
It was a few moments before he heard the slight sounds of yelling a few blocks away. He swung his way over and landed on the building above the alleyway he detected the yelling from. The eyes of his suit narrowed as he looked down to see none other than (Name) and two unknown men.
A different sort of worry and adrenaline coursed through his veins as he quietly swung down onto the ground behind them. She stood in in front of one man while another held her against him.
"Look, if you would just cooperate, we'd let you go," the one in front of her spoke. She let out a sarcastic laugh.
"Yeah, okay. We both know that's a lie," her voice was dipped in sarcasm and Peter had to refrain himself from letting a laugh slip out. He let the conversation play out, enjoying the fact that she seemed to know how to somewhat handle herself.
It wasn't until the two men got agitated enough to try and hurt her, that Peter moved to step in. He was stopped short though by (Name) stepping on the toes of the one that was holding her and moving her arm to elbow him in the nose. He groaned in pain and she pushed her leg back to kick him in his groin.
She then turned and dodged a hit from the other man and lifted her leg up, landing a hard kick to his mouth. Peter stood in awe at what he had witnessed while the two men groaned in pain on the floor.
"Holy shit. Man, I wish I knew how to do that," Peter hadn't realized he said anything out loud until (Name) turned to face where he was. She had a hard look on her face and she narrowed her eyes. Peter nervously stepped out into better lighting and she took a step back, her eyes widening.
"Holy shit, you're Spider-Man," she breathed out and Peter nodded.
"Yeah, yeah that's, uh, that's me," he stuttered out, awkwardly leaning against the wall next to him. She raised her eyebrows in amusement.
"Aren't you going to do something about them?" she questioned, motioning a hand to the two men still on the floor.
"Oh! Oh yeah, yeah of course," Peter dragged both of them against the opposite wall and webbed them against it.
"So um, where'd you learn to fight like that? It was really impressive," he complimented. His lips curled into a smile beneath his mask as he took in the flush of her cheeks.
"Oh that? It's nothing really," her voice was shy. (Name)'s gaze fell to the floor as she dragged the toe of her shoe against the pavement. Peter chuckled.
"Seriously, where'd you learn how to do that?" She inhaled slowly before exhaling.
"Well, I have 2 old brothers. Billy's in chess club and has no muscles and Charles rocks a damn good pair of heels. So of course i had to learn to fight," she confessed and Peter laughed.
"Well, it was pretty badass," he commented. This time, he wasn't sure why he loved the way her cheeks flared from his compliments. And he really didn't know why his heart seemed to speed up at the sight. But he hoped he could find out soon.
