Rose

There was a vibration

that shook the ground

and made my body flinch.

It was like an earthquake

and it made me afraid.

The ground seemed

as if it could crack

at any moment.

My hands were shaky

as I struggled to figure out

what was going on.

With my hearing aids ripped off

I couldn't decipher

what the heck was going on.

I bit my trembling lip

and closed my eyes

squeezing them shut

for my dear life.

My heart was racing

faster than I could follow

and I tried to focus.

I had tried this

whenever I was with Caleb.

Focusing on recognizing

him.

His smell.

His body.

His height.

His affect on me.

The stench

of smoke and filth

made my nostrils cough.

Alissa's flowery perfume

was still near.

There is someone with us.

Someone who smokes.

Someone who creates a lot of noise

especially on the ground.

Suddenly,

a cold wrinkled hand

grabs onto my arm

and yanks me up

almost tearing it off.

I cry out

from the sudden pain.

My legs are limp

and my body aches all over.

The cold hand

has a good grip of my arm.

I don't know who this is.

A sudden rush

of ash and filth

clouds my face

and I recoil.

I shove them away

enough to have them

loosen their grip on me.

I turn and focus

on Alissa's presence.

My gut churns

and I know I don't have time

to think.
