Caleb

Today is the last day

of school

before winter break.

I found it dumb

for the school to open Monday

but have break after that.

It'd be useless by then

so a lot of people

weren't here.

Now that football season

was all finished

I had nothing to do

but relax

and do my work.

I was still perplexed

of what had happened

last Friday after the game.

Nobody knew what happened either.

But what worried me the most

was that it had something

connected to Rose.

It's bad

to have her friends there

on the bleachers

while she's gone.

It's bad

for bumping into Anna

the girl who is fierce and outgoing

and seeing her

almost bursting into tears.

There's this growing gnaw

in my gut

that eats at my mind

telling me it had to do with Rose.

But I didn't know why

I was worried in the first place.

Why should I be worried

about the girl who cheated on me?

It didn't make sense.

I strode through

the less crowded halls

and tried to focus

more on getting to class

than worrying about Rose.

I shouldn't be caring about her.

I turned a corner

and saw Scott holding Anna

in his arms

protectively

and whispering words to her

in a gentle voice.

I furrowed my brows

and the warning bell rang.

Scott glanced at me

his eyes sad and worried

and I opened my mouth

to ask what was wrong.

But he shook his head

and lead Anna to the nurse's office

and I turned my heel
