Anna

Ten minutes earlier

I separated from Ms. Stella

to search for Rose.

Considering her disabilities

we figured

she shouldn't have

traveled far.

But I didn't understand

how she got up

and disappeared

without a trace

of accidents on the way.

I felt so stupid

for not paying attention to her.

But I know

very well

Ms. Stella feels even more guilty.

The adult who accompanied us

who was like, Rose's  guardian

lost track of Rose.

It's like being a parent

and not knowing

where your daughter is

when she was just holding your hand

I jogged around the halls

hoping to see Rose

somewhere.

Every minute

my heart panicks

and I struggle to keep collected.

I'm frustrated

so much

I want to scream.

I check the bathrooms.

I check the foyer.

I check the exits.

Did I not mention

I checked the boys bathrooms

and locker rooms?

Rose completely disappeared

as if she never existed.

I texted Ms. Stella

and asked if she found Rose.

She didn't

but she assured me

she was heading to security

to have a team

to search for her.

I couldn't help

but think of the worst

possible ways

that would happen to her;

a vulnerable disabled girl

lost in the school stadium.

I blink back

fat hot tears

threatening to spill

as I fan myself

to cool down.

Freaking out won't help find her.

I turn a corner

and slam into Alissa.

Her face is pale

and her eyes wide

and desperate.

When she sees me

she breaks into tears

nothing but guilt and fear

punching her shaking body.

I demand her to speak up

because she's the only person

who I think

is involved with Rose's disappearance.

Who doesn't blame her,

Rose's former bully.

Alissa's voice

is struggling

between her sobs

and her panicking state.

I grab her shoulders and shake her.

I need her to keep it together.

"I ran away

a-and left Rose alone

after she saved me," she sniffed

and she covered her face

with her hands.

"I'm so sorry," her voice breaks

from the guilt.

I stare at her

until she explains the whole story

with sobs and hiccups.

She dragged Rose out here

because she couldn't stand her.

They got into a fight

until two creepy men

from the other school

started attacking them.

Rose managed to save Alissa

and Alissa ran away.

"You f*king left her with those creepy guys,"

I growled from the anger

rising dangerously up my body.

Alissa sobs "I'm sorry,"

over and over.

It takes a second

before Ms. Stella spots me

from across the hall.

Her face falls

from the sight of Alissa

the Queen

cowering before me

like a pill bug.

"What's going on?" she demands.

I tell her the story

because Alissa is too broken down

to tell it.

Ms. Stella immediately

pulls out her phone

and calls the police.

The school staff can't handle this.

Alissa said one of those men

had a gun.
