Twenty

"I have to go," she spoke abruptly and Zack moved to stop her but Dom caught him before he could.

This wasn't happening, not again. She was right here away from those low lives and Dom still wouldn't let him take her back where she belonged.

"Why did you let her leave?", Zack snapped as Letty's car drove around the block. "She's in danger."

"She'll come with us when she's ready. We can't force anything on her."

Zack rolled his eyes and went back over to his car but stopped when he heard the roaring of an engine.

Dom looked ready and seemed prepared for whatever was going on. Maybe it was just Brian.

"I see you had the mouse but you set it free," Shaw stepped out of his car taunting the two of them. His icy glare held Zack's for the longest as the young guy clenched his jaw to keep from making a move that could endanger Letty even more. "You guys take keeping your friends closer to a whole nother level," he chuckled darkly.

"Zack, go."

He moved to protest but Dom just pointed to his car that he had been moving to in the first place. Taking that as a sign that Dom knew what he was doing, Zack nodded.

That or he'd have to sit on the sidelines as the rest of this played out.

When he returned, his head was filled and not even the beer that he hated drinking but took anyways could clear his mind. After about two cases were gone, Brian found him practically leaning over the railing to stare down at the streets below.

"Zack?! If this is happening like for real then I think that you need to stay on the sidelines."

"Yeah, that's so not happening."

"Regardless of what I would do for Mia, I would never let myself get clouded like this."

"I'm not you, Brian, and I'm sick of having to compare my life and reasons to you and yours. I'm Zack and I fell in love with Letty, not you. So don't tell me what I should and should not do to protect my love. Can you just focus on your family and let me take care of mine? Because Letty's going to come back and we can start over like this never happened."

Brian had no words for what his brother had just told him. He knew Zack tried his best to stay out of trouble and he had great intentions but all of that meant nothing when there were people out there trying to hurt you.

He just sat down beside Zack and took a beer from an unopened case smacking away Zack's hand as he reached for another.

"Not about to have an alcoholic for a brother," Brian joked.

They sat in comfortable silence with one another just staring out at the calm night.

"I feel like if this ever stops for us, then we'll miss out on the fun but then I go home with Mia and everything is different."

"At least you get to go home to be with the one you love. Maybe you should think about retiring and being a full time Dad. You should really marry Mia."

"When the time is right."
