Psalm 105:1-45

Psalm 105 is a poetic summary of Israel's history focusing on the positive aspect.  God's Faithfulness on His covenant with Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses.  The Israelites needed to remember to be faithful to the ONE  who had always been faithful to them.  Again I use the numbering system to show you the multitude of His Mercy and Love of those in His care.  Sometimes amidst our trials and heartaches we lose track of the memory of what God has done for us.  Start this section by saying, "Thank You, Lord, for saving my soul!"  I am sure it will stir memories of how God has led you, provided for you and guided you through your walk with Him!
I repeat, Psalm 105 dwells on the eternal Faithfulness of God!  To begin with read Exodus 7:8 through 11:10; and 1 Chronicles 16:8-22.  This is all what Psalm 105 is recalling.
Now we are ready to read Psalm 105:1-6-(NKJV-"O give thanks to the Lord!":
(Let's consider the word "Thanks". In Hebrew this was meant as a public acknowledgment, but in English "Thank you" is on a one to one basis most of the time.  Sometimes FOR officials or people  dealing with public it becomes a news broadcast or a gathering announcement; but generally it is a quick "Thank You" given for a helpful deed or gift given out of thoughtfulness.  Hebrew "Yadah" Is associated with the noun "Yad" meaning "hand" and suggesting the hand outstretched to God or a person in Thankfulness.)
    1. "Call upon His Name;" ( Psalm 113:1-3; Isaiah 12:4)
    2. "Make known His deeds among the peoples!" (The Yad of the Hebrew)
    3. "Sing to Him, Sing Psalms to Him;" (1Corinthians 14:15)
    4. "Talk of all His wondrous works!" (Psalm 119:27)
    5. "Glory in His wondrous Name;" (Psalm 138:2)
    6. "Let the heart of those REJOICE who seek the Lord!" (Jesus' words-Luke 4:18-19)
    7. "Seek the Lord and His Strength;" (Matthew 6:33)
    8. "Seek His Face evermore!" (Psalm 27:8)
    9. "REMEMBER  His Marvelous Works which He has done," (Psalm 77:6, 11; this is the Key Word REMEMBER!)
    10. "His Wonders and the Judgments of His Mouth,"
But who is the Psalmist speaking to:
" O seed of Abraham, His servant, You children of Jacob, His Chosen Ones!" (Genesis 12:1-3-includes us; 13:14-17-in every direction; 17:7-8; 15:13-21; 26:3-4; 28:3-15 and God never stops because His Covenant is Eternal.)
We press on with Praise to God in Psalm 105:7-11-(TLB)-"He is the LORD OUR GOD. HIS GOODNESS IS SEEN THROUGHOUT THE LAND."  (TLB reminded us in verse 6- "REMEMBER how He destroyed our enemies." God remembers even when we forget.  That's why HE IS OUR GOD!; Isaiah 26:9-everyone will see YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.)
"Though a thousand generations pass He never forgets His PromIse, His Covenant with Abraham and Isaac." (Luke 1:72; Genesis 17:1-9; 15:13-15-God is as good as His Word!)
"And confirmed with Jacob, this is His never-ending treaty with the people of Israel: 'I will give you the land of Canaan as your inheritance.' " (Genesis 22:16-18; 13:15; 15:18.-renewal of covenant with Abraham.)
Now CEB tells us in Psalm 105:12-15-"When they were few in number-insignificant, just immigrants-wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to the next," (Deuteronomy 7:7; Hebrews11:9; Psalm 147:2, 19.)
""God didn't let anyone oppress them.  God punished kings for their sake:" (Genesis 35:5-7; 12:17.)
"Don't touch my anointed ones; Don't harm my prophets!" (This referred to King and Priests of Israel!  We also are kings and priests unto God and warrant His protection-Revelation 5:9-10)
We present Psalm 105:16-22-(TEV)-"When the Lord sent famine to their country, and took away their food," (Genesis 41:54; Leviticus 26;26; We may face hard times!)
"He sent Joseph ahead of them, who had been sold as a slave." (Genesis 37:28, 36; 45:3-5; We may feel used!)
"His feet were hurt by tight chains and an iron collar was put around his neck," (Genesis 40:15; We may feel physical pain!)
"Until what he had predicted came true.  The Word of the Lord proved him right." (Genesis 39:11-21; 41:25, 42-43-the iron manacled was replaced with a gold chain around his neck-victory over all his enemies.  God was faithful and brought deliverance and provision for his family by God's clever act of dream's and man's bad intent.  God is Greater than high powers and lowly evil deeds. We will see God's Hand reviving us!)
"Then the king had him released; the ruler of nations set him free." (Genesis 41:15-41)
"He put him in charge of his government, with complete authority over the king's officials, and power to instruct his advisers." (Genesis 41:-44 read it again)
From Rags to Riches by the Hand of God; from Slavery and imprisonment to Ruler of Egypt next to Pharaoh!  That's the God I serve!  We will see victory!
Even Jacob benefited from his young sons position!  Psalm 105:23-25-(TLB)-"then Jacob (Israel) arrived in Egypt and lived there with his sons." (Genesis 46:5-7)
"In the years that followed the people of Israel multiplied explosively until they were a greater nation than their rulers," (Exodus 1:7-9; Only GOD could accomplish this!)
"At that point God turned the Egyptians against Israel; they hated and enslaved them." (What? Where is God?  Exodus 1:9-10; 4:21;  God has it all in His plan. He wanted to bring them out of Egypt and give them the Promised Land free of slavery.  A land dedicated to serving God only.  An eternal Jerusalem is our promise, eternal in the heavens which will never be destroyed   This will be theirs also- Revelations 21:1-7)
But not yet in Psalm 105:26-36-(NKJV)-"He sent Moses His servant and Aaron whom He had chosen." (Exodus 3:10; 4:12-15)
"They performed His signs among them and wonders in the land of Ham." (Psalm 78:43; The plagues are not placed in order as they occurred in Exodus.  This is a historical prose in a poetic version of the events to present the horror of it that is used here.  Also only eight plagues are mentioned.  Read Exodus 7-11 to get them in the order they occurred.)
So we see the wonders God performed:
    1. "He sent darkness, and He made it DARK; and they did not rebel against His Word." (Note that when God declares something, it really happens_"He sent darkness, and made it dark."  What he says-happens. The evidence of it occurs!)
    2. "He turned their WATERS into blood, and killed their FISH." (Exodus 7:20-21)
    3. "Their land abounded with FROGS, even in the chambers of their kings." (Exodus 8:6)
    4. "He spoke and there came swarms of FLIES, and LICE in all their territory." (Exodus 8:16-19; even the magicians recognized God in this act; Exodus 8:24-the flies!)
    5. "He gave them HAIL for rain, and flaming fire for their land." (Exodus 9:23-26)
    6. "He struck their VINES also and their FIG TREES and splintered the TREES of their territory." (Psalm 78:47; Exodus 9:25)
    7. "And ate up all the VEGETATION in their land, And DEVOURED THE FRUIT of their ground." (Exodus 10:12-15-locusts)
    8. "He also destroyed all the FIRSTBORN in their land, THE FIRSTBORN of all their strength." ( Exodus 12:29; 13:15; Genesis 49:3-shows value of the firstborn in Egypt.
This curse by God  is the result of rebellion to God's plan for Israel.  The enemy never wins!  He may temporarily stall the plan but he can never destroy it.  God's timing is perfect and accomplished!)
Now we enter the beginning of God's exodus of His people from Egypt with Psalm 105:37-41-(TEV)-"Then He (God) led the Israelites out;" (He was in charge now as He was their Leader!):
    1. "They carried SILVER and GOLD, and all of them were strong and healthy."
(Exodus 12:35-36-the wealth of Egypt went with them)
    2. "The Egyptians were glad when they left, because they were AFRAID OF THEM."
(Exodus 12:33-they were not missed by those behind.  Later we read some of them left with Israel)
    3. "He put a CLOUD over His people and a FIRE to give them light by night."
(Exodus 13:21-22-a constant covering of God's presence by day and by night.)
    4. "They asked and He sent QUAILS, He gave them FOOD from heaven to satisfy them." (Exodus16:12; Psalm 78:24-25; God provides for us daily as He did the Israelites.)
    5. "He opened the ROCK, and WATER gushed out, flowing through the desert like a river." (Exodus 17:6; God is there to fill our thirsty souls with the water of life through Jesus Christ Our Lord!)
Why did God do all this for Israel in spite of their grumbling and complaining?  Why did He care so much for them?  Psalm 105:42-45-(CEB)-answers this question!:
    1. "Because God REMEMBERED HIS HOLY PROMISE TO ABRAHAM HIS SERVANT," (I told you God REMEMBERS His own; He will not forget you; His promise is true, God is still on the throne!)
     2. "God brought HIS PEOPLE OUT WITH REJOICING; HIS CHOSEN ONES WITH SONGS OF JOY."  (Genesis 15:13)
    3. "God gave them the land of other nations; they inherited the wealth of many people's-" (Joshua 11:16-23; 13:7)
    4. "All so that they would KEEP HIS LAWS AND OBSERVE HIS INSTRUCTIONS."  (Deuteronomy 4:1-40)
So remember HIS RULES AND LAWS AND OBEY HIS COMMANDS!  That is the way from slavery to victorious rulership.  For us, Christ is the WAY from death to life, from slavery of sin to victorious rulership with Christ!  Look what we left behind and go foreword in Christ.
REMEMBRANCE HELPS US APPRECIATE WHAT GOD HAS DONE, IS DOING, AND CAN DO FOR US IN THE FUTURE!
