i am a princess
because i deserve nothing
but the best treatment
and the upmost respect.
i rub glitter into my skin
and pin a tiara on my head,
ballroom dance with my lover
in the pale glow of my fairy lights.
but i am a warrior, too.
i am a warrior
because you do not scare me.
i stand tall in the face of somebody
who wishes to make me feel small.
i have battle scars riddled all over my body
and i still smile and laugh despite the pain.
i have the power to rip people apart
with a single sentence.
it's not an issue of either/or.
place the crown upon my head
and place the sword in my hand
at the same time.
