I tried to write a poem
about happiness
but I forgot what that felt like.
I forgot how to smile.
I tried to write a poem
about love
but I needed to be vulnerable again
to allow myself to feel it.
I tried to write a poem
about music
but my words didn't rhyme
and my melody sounded like someone else's song.
I tried to write a poem
about me
but I didn't know who that was anymore.
I lost the only me I've ever known.
I tried to write a poem
about someone who loved me,
but i couldn't.
I just didn't believe it when you said you loved me.
I tried to write something
that could erase all the pain
but that would leave me all alone
again.
