oceans

i waded into the waters,
stood still and watched the waves crash.
the turmoil and grace of the ocean
calmed my mind and stilled rampant thoughts.
i laid my burdens down and
let the ocean drown them.
i watched my pain die and
my smile shine through.
the ocean gave me the solace my soul
yearned for.
the ocean took my sins away and
baptised me.
rebirth.
the ocean taught me that
i don't have to apologize for being what
the universe created me to be.
the ocean whispered into my ear and said,

"rise up, child of wonder.
here is your freedom. take it with both hands
and never forget your history. never forget where you come from.
and if you feel the need,
come back home. come back to the water
and find yourself again."
