Fiona's P.O.V.

As I fled the village, I heard the shouts.

"She's a witch!"

No I am not.

"She brought this famine!"

I fixed it.

"Burn her at the stake!"

I was scared.

They were wrong. I fixed the famine, I grew my village the food they needed to survive. But they must've gotten me confused with someone else. I'm not a witch either. I don't know what I am, but witch isn't it.

Several of the men from the village followed me, but they got caught up in vines. I heard their screams until I heard nothing. I didn't mean to strangle them. I didn't mean any of this.

I ran for what felt like hours. I ran until I was too far away from my small, Irish village for them to find me. It was dark. I wasn't sure were exactly I was, but it seemed open and the grass was long. Perhaps a meadow. I decided to rest so I could run again tomorrow. I put my head down in the soft grass and felt some of the longest blades cover my body, keeping me warm. Then I drifted to sleep.

I awoke the next morning to a soft buzzing sound. I was confused, until I remembered that I was on the ground, outside. The events of the previous day came flooding back. I sat up and looked around. I was indeed in a meadow. Tulips were budding all around. The air smelled sweet and for a minute, I forgot I needed to run.

The buzzing returned and I snapped out of my trance. Several bees were collecting pollen at near by flowers. I watched them for a minute. Suddenly, a hand touched my shoulder and I screamed. Turning around, I saw a boy I didn't recognize.

"Hey, calm down." He said, in a thick British accent. "I'm just wondering what you're doing."

His mouth barely opened when he spoke. The bees around me quickly flew to the boy and buzzed around his head.

"Are you alright?" A bee flew into his mouth the second it opened. "Can you not speak?" Another flew into his mouth. Did he not notice? I must've been staring, because he quickly shook his head and smiled.

"Sorry, they live in my stomach, I command them, see?" He said, opening his mouth as several flew out and landed near me. I nodded.

"So you do speak English?" I nodded again. "Why aren't you running away then?"

"Why would I run?" I asked quietly.

"I don't know, because I have bees living inside me? It's usually a buzz kill when I mention that." He grinned at his corny joke and I just shook my head.

"It doesn't bother me, I'm different too."

"How so?" He asked. I felt I could trust him to not turn on me, so I placed my hand above the ground, and flowers grew. He looked impressed and nodded.

"So, why are you out here alone?" He asked again.

"I ran." I responded.

"From what?"

"The village. They said I was a witch." I muttered.

"Oh, well I ran away too. Apparently, my dad is allergic to bee strings. And I guess it's "unacceptable" to have bees inside you." He had a very childish manner to him, the way he talked and acted. But he looked nearly 17. I liked the way his accent sounded too.

"Well, maybe we should head off. Where are you going?" I shrugged.

"Well, I was hoping to smuggle my way into a delivery ship, and sail to America. But water isn't the best transportation when you have bees, maybe you can help me with making sure they have enough food to make it." I wasn't keen on the idea of sailing off with a boy I had just met, but I needed somewhere to go. I just nodded.

He offered me his hand and I accepted, slowly standing up. And then we began walking. He was a talker. His name was Hugh. Hugh Apiston. He told me a lot about himself. I didn't talk much, so I listened. Once we got to the end of the meadow, we were greeted by a forest. It was pretty dark inside. Hugh was about to start the long walk around the trees when I had an idea. I looked up at the branches and they parted, revealing the sun in the sky. The forest floor was now well lit. We began walking again. There was a very strange feeling I kept getting. Something was watching us. Hugh must've realized it too, because he began talking less and looking around.

"Something is watching us..." he murmured. Suddenly, a large bird, possibly a falcon, landed in front of us. Hugh's bees hurried back into his mouth. The bird sat unmoving, eyes staying on us. Then the bird flew away.

"Strange. "Hugh said. We continued walking until we heard footsteps in the crunching leaves in the distance. A figure began taking shape. Hugh stepped in front of me like a guard.

"Who's there?" He asked confidently. The figure grew closer until an outline of an older woman took shape.

"Hello Mr. Apiston, Miss Frauenfeld." Said the woman.

"Who are you?"asked Hugh.

"Miss Peregrine. And I've come to take you to my orphanage." The woman said.

"We aren't orphans." He said. He remained in front of me, but his posture relaxed.

"Yes. You're parents kicked you out for the bee problem, and her village wants to burn her at the stake, but I can protect you from other dangers as well." This was being very vague but she knew a lot.

"How do you know?" He asked.

"I am an Ymbryne. I take care of children, similar to you, with unusual talents." She said "Now, please, follow me."

Hugh began walking forward, but clasped my hand. "I'm taking you with if something happens and we need to run, so just stay close."
