To Castle Klatka be this missive delivered,

The eighteenth of October, Fourteen Hundred and Seventy-nine

To my sister, Hero,

Am still holding my last message to you. I may not send this one.

There came a moment when we were losing the fight. The Black Army of Matthias Corvinus was falling in Breadfield. And then I saw a man fighting alone with a spear through his waist, running into battle as if he were invincible. I could not unsee him, as he was pelt'd by armaments on multiple occasions and continued to rise. His face, Hero. I recognize him as a fallen tyrant whose stony corpse disappear'd on this very road only three years hence. I have not spoken of Dracula to you. Nor to anyone, but the King. I cannot write of it, but know that if I have witness'd him here it means something abysmal is soon to happen. Very likely to me. For he walks against the wills of both heaven and hell.

Your devoted brother, Ezzelin
