When Danny opened his eyes the next morning, he didn't know where he was. The sun was shining directly into his eyes and it took him a while until he could open them completely.
He looked around the room. Okay, he was obviously on Steve's couch, but that wasn't really what was interesting right now. What was interesting was that he was snuggled up against Steve, his head resting on his chest, Steve's arm draped over his waist.
Danny chuckled. I could get used to waking up like this.
Woken up by Danny's movements, Steve opened his eyes. "Good morning," he groaned, squinting at the sunlight that was falling through the window.
Danny chuckled as he slowly sat up. "Good morning, sleeping beauty. You know half of your face has like the pattern of your couch all over it, right?"
Steve looked down at himself and frowned. "Yeah, and I've got your drool all over my shirt, what's up with that? Can't even keep your mouth shut when you're sleeping?"
"Wow," Danny chuckled, "and I thought I was grumpy in the morning. C'mon, let's make breakfast; I'm starving. And you could really use some coffee with that grumpy attitude of yours."
He headed to the kitchen, Steve following right behind him.
"That-" Steve admitted, "-was the best sleep I've had in a long time."
Danny laughed as he started to make coffee. "What, you mean with me as your teddy bear? I'm flattered, babe."
"I mean it," Steve insisted, his voice gentle but serious.
Danny turned around. "I know," he said with the same tone of voice.
He walked over to the fridge to get some milk, planting a soft peck on Steve's shoulder as he passed him.Okay, Steve thought, I guess I didn't misinterpret his look yesterday.
Suddenly feeling encouraged to do more, he gave Danny a gentle but lingering kiss to the temple as he reached past him to get the bread.
When Danny turned to look at him, a goofy smile spread on Steve's face. The kind of smile that was reserved only for Danny.
Little did he know Danny was now determined to kiss that stupid smile off his face. The shorter man took a step forward, pulled him in by his waist and connected their lips in a cautious kiss, carefully nipping at his lips.
Steve deepened the kiss, sighing into it as all of his tension was released at once. This was real. Danny loved him. His heart should have been beating like crazy, but he had actually never been this calm.
Finally.
