Chapter 35
His appointment was at some hospital name Saint Louis hospital. On our way, I had to remind him about his reports. So first we went to the hotel we were staying to grab his files. He was unusually slow and quiet and everything was making me restless. I even had to pop up two pills to keep my anxiety down.
We reached the hospital building and I nearly had to drag his ass.
"What is your doctor's name and at which floor is your appointment," I was anxious and he stared at if I have grown an extra head magically.
"Actually I-I forgot to make one"
"You what!" I almost yelled and few heads snapped in our direction. Mumbling quick apologies I faced him again.
"Why are you so reckless about your own health Alex! Why can't you take care of yourself. I had to constantly remind you about your checkup and I had to remind you about your reports and drag you here! I understand you must be scared to see the results but so am I."
Taking his rough big hands into mine I planted tiny kisses on his knuckles and stared at his emotionless face."Becca-" he began but someone coughed and I turned around.
"Sorry to disturb your PDA but this is a hospital and you both are standing in our way Madame, Sir" I turned around to see a nurse in early forties guiding a patient who was in a wheelchair.
"Sorry" I mumbled.
We stepped aside to make our way towards the reception to book an appointment now but the grip of his hand on my wrist was telling me not to go.
Luckily a Cancer specialist was available and we had to wait in the waiting area on the fifth floor outside the doctor's cabin for our turn. I suggested Alex use his fame so that we don't have to wait. But he said that it would be unfair to other patients and I understand it.
I was impatiently tapping my foot at the same time I was not ready for any negative outcome. Alex too seemed scared, whenever our gaze locked he looked away.I stood up when our name number was called and nudged him to get up too.
"Let's go" I tried to muster a smile but failed miserably. I tiptoed on my feet to place a small peck on his lips. Something flashed in his eyes but it disappeared soon. I softly knocked the wooden door and the authoritative voice called us in.
Dr. William politely gestures us to take our seats and we did. His cabin was all white. A beige color couch was pushed against the wall near an open window and there was a bookshelf too. His table was neatly arranged with big files and many more things."So how may I help you, Mr. Somerhalder." Sincere silver eyes asked us.
I elbowed Alex to say something but he just stared so I elbowed him again.
"Umm..I've some issues"
"What kind"
He opened his mouth to say something but closed again. He repeated it like fish. Deciding to cut through the chase I snatched his reports from his hand and placed it on the table
"Here are his reports. It says that he is diagnosed with-" I momentarily took a pause to muster the courage to say it loud enough. "tumor"
Doctor nodded. Fixing his frameless glasses he began skimming through the files. After studying it thoroughly he placed it back on the table.
"Drug addiction" he nodded to himself.
I know Alex was a drug addict but what does it have to do with the tumor. I don't have much brain but I know that those two are different kinds of illnesses.
"I studied the reports. I don't see any problem regarding the tumor. You are not fully out of your drug addiction as per your recent reports but your progress report is commendable"
