Chapter 48
"Hey" Archer popped out of nowhere startling me.
"You scared me" I narrowed my eyes and he laughs.
"We got the table there." he pointed to the far end and we began following him.
Alex was the first to make a move.I saw few couples on the dance floor and tugged Alex's hand making him halt.
He cocked his head to look at me and his gaze fell on our hands. He did not hold back my hand but neither did he retracted his which I took as a good sign.
"Let's dance" I suggested."I'm not in the mood" he replied coldly.
My smile wavered.
"Just one dance" my voice got meek which was unusual of me."We should not keep Em and Jake waiting, Becca"
"Okay," I nodded.
"You go ahead. I'll dance with her" Archer interrupted.
"And I forgot to mention how sexy you look tonight, Becca. So I might as well have a little dance"
He beamed at me and Alex glared at him."Not you too" Alex almost growled but I grinned when he interlinked our hands.
"What?" Archer asked feigning innocence.
"If you can't then I can dance with her"Alex shot him a series of profanities and Archer reciprocated the love. I handed Archer my purse before Alex swoops me roughly to the dance floor. I look over my shoulder to see Archer grinning. He winks at me and I mouthed him a big thank you to which he gave me thumbs up.
I am glad Alex has a friend like him.
We made our way to the middle. My face broke into the biggest smile when he pulled me a little closer and I looped my arms around his neck inching more closer. His arms went around me as we started moving along the soft music. Thanks to my heels, I do not need to strain my neck to look into his eyes. He was looking down at me with myriad emotions swirling in his eyes.
"Four goals you scored back to back was so amazing to watch specially against the good goalkeeper" my words took him by surprise but I still continued.
"And during the semifinals, the team was in a tight spot and all the pressure was on you still you managed to score" I gushed and I was genuinely happy about his performance. He listens intently until I finish everything and I noticed that he was fighting back his excitement about the matches. I know about his love for his game. Football is something that lifts his mood instantly.
"I know you want to talk about it. Say something" I bit my lips praying for him to say something. His gaze followed my lip movement and he licked his dry lips.
"I was holding on to the last thread of hope that you would show up because you promised. But you didn't"
I gulped feeling horrible.
"I thought you would at least call or text. But you didn't. It seems like you always give up when it comes to us"
His voice was low but I knew how hurt he was and I felt like a total bitch.
Whenever we fight or have an argument, he is the one to talk first and I just sit, waiting for him and bitch about everything."I'm sorry" I apologized locking our eyes.
"Sorry for everything""And I missed you Alexander Somerhalder" I threaded my fingers through his dark locks. Something crossed through his eyes before he pulled me more close, so there was no space left between us and nestled his face into the crook of my neck with his arms tightly around me. It made my heart flutter.
I breathed his scent embracing the warmth, never wanting to let him go. Suddenly the hall felt more intimate like we two are the only people dancing here.
