Masks

We are all actors
That act upon a stage
Never alive,
Reciting words from a page
We put on our masks
That we made from glass
And hide in the shadows
Of a past we'd prefer to forget
Comforted by the fact
That nobody knows
At least, not yet
We tread carefully
Walking on eggshells
Paying great heed
To imaginary warning bells
Just one wrong step
And our glass masks will fall
Shatter on the ground

And expose us all
We're afraid of the truth
So we build walls of lies
Whisper
Our last goodbyes
To the people that we were
But would never again be
Puppets behind a mask
For all eternity
