Night Owls

They say to close your windows
And lock your front door tight
Close your eyes, pretend to sleep
And you'll make it through the night
But when the dark comes creeping in
And the monsters stir beneath your bed
Did you ever try to pretend
That they were simply night owls instead?
For when the sun sets
They begin to stir
Sprouting feathers
And losing their fur
They crawl from every nook and cranny
Out of the corners and into the night
Where they are free once again
To spread their wings in flight
