yuimon ; red string of fate au

"you've been staring at your string for about an hour since we got here and it's honestly getting annoying." yui sighs as hazelle looks at her ring finger for the nth time. hazelle grins sheepishly before apologizing. "honestly, stop rubbing in my face that you met your soulmate already."

"you're just salty you haven't met yours yet." the chinese-american grins.

yui rolls her eyes. "either way, i don't care about soulmates. how can fate decide who to pair me up with."

"soulmates aren't entirely romantic though, they can be platonic. look at wyatt and onyx." hazelle tries to lighten up the mood. "besides, your older sister found her soulmate already, right?"

"yeah, kou." yui nods. "but they knew ever since they were little, haze."

yui stares at her ring finger and at the red knot tied around it. she follows the string, seeing it fade as it trails away. her soulmate must be far away, not that she cares anyway. she never did.

ever since that day when her parents split up.

twelve year old yui stares at her father, viktor, from the staircase as he leaves the house. she notices the red string around his finger that connects to her other father, yuuri. it was still connected, an indication that her parents were still soulmates, yet what's the point when they weren't together anymore?

for years, yui watched as her father grew depressed over the fact that his soulmate left him (and their four children). which was the main reason why she and her older brother, makka, never believed that soulmates are supposed to end up together, romantically or platonically.

"hey, heard there's gonna be a transfer student from thailand."

"really? i hope he's handsome, we need more good looking people in school."

"what do you call me then?"

"you? a bitch."

yui shakes her head as she walks down the school's hallway with her two best friends, hazelle and bella. "honestly, you two act like you don't have boyfriends already."

"chill," bella says. "honestly, you're growing more and more bitter. go find your soulmate already."

yui stops the urge to look at her red string. "whatever. i'm skipping dance class today, i'm assigned to take care of the new kid. i'm hoping he's tolerable enough."

"tolerable? don't you think you're a little too judgemental on someone you haven't met yet?" hazelle raises an eyebrow.

yui just sighs and walks off. "by the way, tell hyunjoo that she still owes me the drinks from last night."

"yeah yeah, we will."

"yuika, this is gamon chulanont, our transfer student from thailand. gamon, she'll be the one to guide you around the school."

as soon as the teacher left, yui couldn't help but notice the tug on her ring finger. "fuck." she mutters under her breath.

gamon seems to have noticed the way yui glanced at her string and looked at his own. "oh. so you're—"

"look." yui stares at his eyes. "i don't give a shit about this soulmate crap, okay? i'm not interested in any of this bullshit."

the boy couldn't help but grin. "don't worry, we can still be friends."
