CHAPTER TWELVE

"I can lead her way out".

"Robert please. Ms. Carnahan is here for you. I had enough with your behavior. I can't stand seeing them crying because you say something bad to them. People think we are such a torture family, they will not respect on us anymore".

He leaned on his wheelchair, clicks his tongue. Behind the door there is Evelyn eavesdropping and the butler Joe standing.

She turned to him. "I've heard about that". he smiled. She keeps hearing the mother and son conversation behind this door. "What really happened to them?"

"Robert makes them suffer in their life, he knows everything, including you. He's been studying the people of Cairo. So I do believe you and Ardeth Bay are friends". she nodded, he spoke back. "He knows them from Ardeth".

"He's been friends with Ardeth? He didn't say anything before I came in here".

Joe chuckled, nodding. "He won't. We've known you through him. Of course also from Dr. Bey. Amelia wants everything perfect for her son".

"You didn't say why? so you know my journey, my life and my son".

Joe nodded again. "Before you there's a young woman, old women came for the interview so let's say they were holding back for a few days. One the young woman name Moira almost rape Robert while he asleep that night luckily Ardeth came through the window and safe him".

Evelyn's jaws drop then, chuckle. "He almost get rape by a woman who.. how's that possible? WAIT! all the carers must stay here or what.."

"No. We were not allowed to stay here. The duty of care just came in the morning and returned home by five-thirty. Oh, before I forgot.."

Amelia rubs under her chin. Robert really demands Evelyn out of his life. "My old life was completely stunning before I became like this".

"And that because someone is poisoning you that night that you didn't realize they put into your drink. With that you unconscious on the floor, you almost lose everything for the sake of your life the next thing you know you are barely walking".

Amelia breathed heavily, she spoke again.

"You're the only child I have. I cannot lose you no matter what it takes but please do listen to your mother".

He snorted, still with his arrogant behavior. "Alright. I give her a chance, if she fails I will chase her out!"

"You have my word but basically you are the reason why they had left". She smiled. "She had a son but no husband nor married, what we know she is famous for fighting with the mummies back years ago".

"Do you actually believe what she has been through? fighting with mummies".

"I trust Ardeth. We all trust him. He saved you that night supposed he should be guarding the desert, something not right that he had to stay a while".

Robert is eyeing his mother. Amelia pushed the chair, walk to the open window.

"How did you know?" he asked. "How did you know he had to stay for me".

"Because he said so". She looked over her shoulder where he was, then facing back to the view outside the room. "Beautiful isn't it? you find your justice".

He shrugged, said. "I cannot believe he will do this to me. Malek. For what I know, he is jealous of me, of my wealth, of how women are obsessed with me. So he wants me to lose everything but not my wealth..

"He may have taken everything I own. But he cannot take what is mine. I was glad Malek, he.. the police".

"Served his right to try to kill my son. You should thank Ardeth because he is the reason you are alive".

Behind the door. Evelyn heard nothing, her ears leaned on the door and still heard nothing.

What happened inside? she thought.

"I couldn't hear anything!" she whispers to Joe. "Are they killing themselves?". In second, the door opens and Evelyn shrieks as she stumbles her knee on the floor, she looks up. Her eyes met Amelia, she smiled. "Urmm I believe I just stumbled".

Robert snorted, smirking as he studied her. Amelia helped her out. "Are you alright, Evelyn?" she dusted her pants. "I believe Joe already showed you around, I mean half the house. So I will see you tomorrow morning".

"Am I hired?"

"Yes. I'm so glad you are". She smiled. Evelyn's eyes glanced at Robert. "Don't worry about my son, this is our decision, his decision too". Amelia hugged her. "Welcome to the family, Evelyn".

Somewhere. Imhotep walks along at the previous place that he and Babu used to stay for the first time he was resurrected and brought into the world.

The place is still the same, a young child running around without knowing what life is. No parents. Just yourself to survive alone.

Imhotep took a step upstairs then stopped, his eyes studied and smiled. How he had missed the boy.

"Can't believe you still remember this place". a voice talking behind him in Egypt. Imhotep turn. "I don't know what to say whether I am glad to see you or not". Imhotep smiled.

"Didn't you miss me boy". he answered him back in Egypt. "You grow up (his eyes studied) and turn into a Medjai". smirking. "Should I be proud? Are you here to kill me or.."

Babu takes a step forward a bit. "I hear about you. I hear everything what the Medjai say when I was a child. At first I won't believe what they say until he show me".

.. "Ardeth Bay.."

Imhotep whispers. Babu spoke back. "She is the reason why with a child of yours. And now Baltus Hafez.." there's a silence between them. Babu takes another step forward.

"Did you realize that he tried to use you to kill the Scorpion King so then he can have what he wants".

"I know what Hafez intends to do to me, Babu. Even the woman". their eyes met. "I am here for my son. I don't want anything involved or trying to destroy it. Let me have another chance to be with them, the love of my life".

Slowly Imhotep turned to Babu, cried. "I don't need this. I don't need to kill. It makes my son walk away from me, didn't realize I was his.. father".

"Then surrender yourself to us".

"I can't. They will send me back to the Underworld".

"Not if you beg". Imhotep eyes back to Babu. "Surrender. Beg for the sake of your life, promise yourself, convince your loved one and you stay".

Imhotep shakes his head in a smile. In his mind Babu did not understand what he was trying to do in his life. He will not cooperate with the Medjai.

"I can't".

"Then you leave me no choice, Imhotep".

His eyes staring at the walking Babu towards him. Imhotep didn't do anything to hurt this boy. All he knew suddenly Babu wrapped his arm around him.

Imhotep closes his eyes, feel safe. It's been so long he didn't get a hug from this boy Imhotep used to know. Now, how he grows so handsomely.

He hugged the boy, both embraced each other. "How I miss you, Imhotep".

"This is our secret that you wouldn't tell".

"I betray my own kind by hugging you". he replied.

Imhotep shook his head no, said. "This wasn't betrayed, Babu. I was your father once and you will not lose me again".

"What about the woman?"

Imhotep smiled. "You don't need to worry. She will come to me freely".
