Chapter Ten: Close Call

Third person pov
𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟓

" Arizona's ! Yo, what's happening ?"  Mike asked while Emma and Bella got out the car. Emma groaned a bit. Mike Newton was starting to annoy her a bit. She knew Mike liked her, and she let him down easy every time, but he would not stop. She could be straddling Edward and giving him a whole child and would still stand there and ask her on a date.

" Hey Mike."

" Hi Mike."

" So, you and Cullen, huh ?" Mike said which made Emma stop walking and look to him." That's...I don't like it."

" Em, dad's waiting."

" I mean... He looks at you like you're something to eat." Mike said and Emma rolled her eyes looking annoyed.

" Come on, Em." Bella said knowing her sister all to well. Emma followed her sister, but then stopped and turned to him.

" Hey Mike." She said seeing the boy smile and turned around like she was going to say something and he was gonna sweep her off her feet." fuck off."

Just like that Emma gave a sweet smile before turning around and walking into the diner. She saw Charlie sitting their alone

" Sorry we're late."

" Biology Projects. Pain in the ass."

" I ordered you guys the Spam Salad. I hope that's okay." Charlie said making Bella laugh and turn to him.

" You should order one for yourself next time. Cut back on a steak."

" Hey, I'm as healthy as a horse."

" Before or after it was shot ?" Emma said earning two laughs from Charlie and Bella. Emma looked up about to ask the waitress how her day was, but stopped seeing the women's scared and worried face.

" So, Chief. Boys wanna know. Did you find anything down by Creek's River today ?"

" Yeah, we found a bare human footprint, but it looks like whatever that is, it's headed to east. So, Ketsap's County sheriff is gonna take over from here. Okay."

" Okay. I just hope they catch them fast" The waitress said almost as a whisper before leaving. Charlie and Bella would never know, but what they were chasing was dangerous. It feared Emma a bit that whatever vampire was around would hurt them.

" Looks like your friends are flagging you." Charlie said breaking the tension making Bella and Emma turn only to see it was Mike dancing badly." It's okay. If you wanna go, join them. I was gonna try to leave early anyway."

"Me too."

" Girls, Friday night...Go out. Looks like the Newton boy's got a big smile for you."

" Yeah, he's a good buddy."

" An annoying one." Emma said while eating a carrot and rolling her eyes.

" Better than any of these other yahoos in town. Anybody you're interested ?" Charlie asked and it made Emma think a bit. She didn't know if she wanted to talk about Edward or not to her dad. I mean it was her dad for crying out loud. She was just about to when luckily Bella spoke up.

" Dad, we're gonna talk about boys ?"

" I guess not. I just feel like I leave you guys alone too much. You should be around people."

" I don't mind being alone. I guess I'm kind of like my dad in that way." Emma said with a smile looking over to him. He smiled also and they all ate in piece.
