Chapter Forty Two: Odd Behavior

Third person pov
𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝐧𝐝, 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟔

" I can tell your nervous."

Emma looked over to Edward seeing he was looking to the road, but talking to her. They were driving deep in the woods so everyone could practice on the fight. Even the wolves were coming and it placed Bella and Emma a bit on edge.

" Of course I am." She stated." This is like the third year that I been chased by a vampire."

" I wish it wasn't." Edward mumbled.

" It's not your fault." Emma argued sitting more up and looking to him." I knew the consequences when dating you and I'm still okay with it. The only thing bothering me is being useless."

Edward shook his head." You're not useless."

" Being in a woods with Vampires and Werewolves says otherwise." She said before seeing they made it to the point check. She got out the car holding Edward's hand when they heard twigs snap behind them. Edward instantly tensed holding her close only to see it was the wolves and Bella.

" They don't trust us enough to be in their human forms." Edward disapproved looking over to Carlisle.

The oldest man looked over to his son mumbling back." They came. That's what matters. Will you translate ?" Carlisle asked walking over. Edward nodded leaving Emma's side and went towards the wolves.

Bella walked over standing next to her sister just as nervous. Emma smiled looping her arm with her sister." Hey Bella."

" Hey."

Emma saw the familiar brown wolf near the Jeep and smiled." Jacob."

The wolf nodded back before looking over to Carlisle and Edward." Welcome. Jasper has experience with newborns. He'll teach us how to defeat them."

" They want to know how the 'newborns' is differ from us." Edward spoke.

Carlisle nodded." They're a great deal stronger than us, because their own human blood lingers in their tissues. Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months of this life."

Carlisle moved out of the way allowing Jaspar to take his place." Carlisle's right. That's why they are created. A newborn army, doesn't need thousands like a human army. And no human army could stand against them." Hearing what Jaspar said, the wolves had growled in response hating such idea." The two most important things to remember are, first, Never let them get their arms around you. They'll crush you instantly. The second...Never go for the obvious kill. They'll be expecting that. And you will lose. Emmett ?"The big man smirked at the mention of his name and left Rosalie's side to be with Jaspar." Don't hold back."

" Not in my nature." Emmett laughed before Jaspar singled him to come. Emmett went running towards Jaspar tackling him at first, but Jaspar found his grip. Emmett threw him far, but Jaspar caught himself and placed Emmett right on his ass." Never lose focus."

Emma saw Edward and Carlisle were up next and felt slightly worried despite knowing Carlisle wouldn't hurt him. They started going at it with both running at each other. Carlisle slid under Edward before running at each other again and fighting. Emma's eyes followed each of their steps trying to keep up. All she knew was Edward had gotten Carlisle to the ground.

" One more thing." Jaspar said when Carlisle got up and taken Edward down." Never turn your back on your enemy."

The fights didn't last for so long. Everyone, except the wolves and Swan's, fought one on one learning different moves and how to fight. Bella and Emma sat on top of the Jeep looking very annoyed.

" It's bothering me that we can't help." Bella spoke looking over to see Emma nodding.

" I was thinking the same thing." She said sitting up straight and groaning." I hate being on the sidelines."

" There has to be something we can do."

Emma shrugged her shoulders." There's nothing." She exclaimed seeing Jacob came over to take Bella some where. Emma nodded and looked down still not okay with Jacob." I'll leave you too alone."

" Bye Emma." Bella said getting on the back of Jacob's back and riding off.

Emma saw Jaspar passing by and smiled." Hey Jasper."

" Everything okay, Em ?"

" Are you sure, there's nothing I can do to help ?" She asked looking desperate." I mean there has to be something. I hate being on the sidelines once again while everyone risk their lives for me."

" Your presence alone, your scent will distract the newborns. Bella's included. Their hunting instinct will take over, drive them crazy."

" If that was suppose to make me feel better, it didn't." Emma joked causing Jaspar to laugh." How do you know so much about this ?"

" I didn't have quite the same upbringing as my adopted siblings." Jaspar explained lifted his sleeve up and showing the bite marks.

Emma's eyes almost popped out and she climbed further down the jeep" Woah. Jas, those bites are like mine."

" Battle scars." He laughed." All the training the Confederate Army gave me was useless against the newborns. Still, I never lost a fight."

" This has happened during the civil war ?" She asked walking with him.

Jaspar smiled and looked down the short girl explaining everything." I was the youngest major in the Texas cavalry. All without having seen any real battle. Until I'm not a certain immortal. Maria. I was riding back to Galveston after evacuating a column of women and children. When I saw her, I immediately offered her my aid."

" So this Maria chick, she was creating an army ?"

Jaspar nodded his head." They were very common in the South and cost a brutal battles for territory. Maria won them all. She was smart, careful and she had me." Jaspar admitted feeling a bit guilty." I was the second in command. My abilities to control emotions served her well. I trained her newborns. An endless occupation since she never let them live beyond their first year. It was my job to dispose of them. I could feel everything they felt. I thought what Maria and I had was love, but I was her puppet. She pulled the strings. I didn't know there was another way...Until I found Alice."

Emma smiled blushing a bit." Did she see me coming into Edward's ?"

" Of course." Jaspar smiled." She seen the day you met and how much you made Edward's dead heart beat. That's also how Alice knew I was entering her life."

" Kept me waiting long enough." Alice said appearing next to him with a big smile.

" My apologies, Ma'am." Jaspar flirted before turning back to Emma." I don't know what I'd have become without her."

" You'll never have to be that again." Alice said leaning in for a kiss and making Jaspar feel better.

Emma laughed breaking the two." You too are very cute together."

" So are you and Edward." Alice cheered hopping slightly." Every vision I get makes me smile."

" Have you had any recent ones ? Maybe even nice ones ?"

" I had one vision not so long ago." Alice smiled remembering it." You were in a meadow very happy with him. Whatever you too were talking about made you ecstatic."

" Sounds like a good vision."
