Chapter Fifty Nine: The First Swan

Day One
𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟖𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟕

" She shouldn't be this still."

The hours seem to operate slow when standing in the library staring at Emma's body while Carlisle looked her over checking vitals and everything I had done wrong. None of us understood it. Bella was a different case. She had screamed, and twitch, and yelled out her head was scorching before going still under transformation. We could hear her heart now slowly becoming faint, but Emma was different. She was stiff the entire time and her heart beat was inaudible for the past four hours.

" It's the morphine." Carlisle answered turning to look at me.

I shook my head," Maybe I was too late-"

" No, Edward. Listen to her heart." He advised and I did so still hearing the faint beating.

My fear was listening to it for the last time. I always loved hearing her heartbeat since it was the only way to know her emotions since her mind was a blank slate. When she was cheerful, her heart would flutter and when we kissed it would skip a beat. No matter what outcome came now, I was never going to hear it again.

" We should of known she was carrying twins." He spoke giving a small chuckle." Her abdomen was quite substantial, but I believed it was the rapidly growing rate compared to two babies."

" I should of known too." I said not having much emotion to my voice.

How could all of this happen ? We had Emma. She was glowing at her daughters learning to be a mother when her eyes had faded and the smile decrease. Then Bella was the next victim. All I saw her do was sprint over trying to shove Sam off of me when her insides were cut open and she was bleeding out in Jacob's arms. It was all my fault. Emma would be disappointed in me once learning her sister was harmed in my care.

I couldn't blame her if she screamed and hollered for all of Forks to hear. She left this world giving me the one job of taking care of the girls, Leo, and Bella. Cleaning supplies moving in a bucket caught my attention and I glanced at the door seeing Esme and Seth walk in helping each other with all of the products.

" We should clean the floor." Esme suggested.

My eyes looked at the floor noticing a alarming amount of dried up blood on the floor that had once belonged to Emma. I couldn't believe something so tiny could bleed out so much. Seth gave me a smile passing by and beginning to scrub the floor while Esme sprayed some chemical over top.

" We should check on Bella." Carlisle said and I nodded taking one last glance at Emma and heading next door.

Carlisle knocked on the door and we walked in noticing Jacob sitting on a near by chair next to Bella's bed. Her heart beat filled my ears and it was rapidly beating with the venom forming inside her body and changing her DNA. I could already tell by how her wounds had completely healed and her skin was turning a bit of a snow color. Her hair color had even changed from dark brown to a bit of a chestnut.

" Her wounds are healed. Skin ice cold." Carlisle spoke causing Jacob to let out a shaky breath.

" But she's okay ?"

" Yes." Carlisle answered looking back to him." How is Leo doing ? Does he sense anything ?"

" Yes. He keeps looking around the room and confused while we are giving him bottled milk."
