Why are there no trees outside my window?

Topher's words haven't left my head. I didn't think my falling in love with someone could cause someone else so much hurt. Yes, it has hurt me and Alex, maybe, but my brother? He's not even involved in the relationship and we've hurt people as far from us as him.

Disastrous.

Perfect for each other.

That does bring a smile to my face, regardless of how he meant it.

It's the middle of the night and I look over to my left and find Topher asleep. I roll back onto my right side and decide it's best if I do the same. The hospital is completely silent for some strange reason and I should take advantage of that.

Alex's POV

I close the elevator door before anyone hops on. Ten seconds later, when I make it up to her floor, the doors open up again to reveal an empty floor.

No nurses. No doctors.

I run.

I make it to her doorway and see no one there. When I walk in I look to my right and there's Topher asleep. I check on Violet, all is fine. I check the closet in the room, nothing. I check for anything I can think of that will kill anyone, heavy items, scalpels, just anything.

"These two are heavy sleepers," I whisper.

I walk over to Topher to wake him up. Once he looks up, I back up. The only way to describe the look on his face is bloody murder.

He grabs me by my jacket's collar and pushes me out the room once he notices Violet is asleep.

I fall to the floor and try to talk to him.

"Topher!" I whisper.

He picks me back up and pushes me against a wall down the hall.

"You son of a bitch!" he whispers. I hold back my laughter because this whole argument is going to be whispered.

"You've got to listen, alright, let me talk to you," I try.

He throws me to the ground and I receive a blow to the face.

"I deserve that," I say as I grab my jaw. "But I have to talk to you."

"I don't have to listen to your bullshit! You're scum!" he yells.

"Well, I wouldn't say scum..."

A kick to the gut.

I slowly get up after.

"Okay, this is just ridiculous," I say. When I look up Topher's coming at me. "Nope," I say as he pins me up against the wall. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'm in an international drug cartel!" I whisper as I throw my hands up.

"What?" Topher questions and steps back.

"That's why I'm here. I'm part of a drug cartel. I-I've been trying to leave. Violet's life is in danger, Topher," I explain.

"You're a drug dealer?" he whispers back.

"No, no, I'm not a dealer, no. I do more pick-ups than anything, well, maybe like twice-" I get punched in the stomach and as soon as Topher let's go of my upper half I bend over in pain.

"You got my sister involved in a drug cartel?!" he finally yells.

"Not involved, mate. I was in the process of leaving, but they don't like it when people leave so they came after her." I stand up. "I got your mother killed Topher. No words can explain how sorry I am. " I say.

Topher begins to rub his eyes under his glasses with his left hand.

"You said my sister's life is in danger?" He finally says.

"The whole floor is empty man, I think my boss is planning something. Something to end her life, then mine."

He finally takes a look around the empty hospital, never having realized anything because of his anger.

"What do we do?" he finally asks and shocks me just a little.

We walk back to Vi's room, well I tread my way back. Topher sits down and I look out the window.

"Would you quit rubbing your knees?" I ask him, before checking on Vi again.

I hand him my gun and he looks completely astonished.

"Whatever you do, don't kill him. That's my job," I order him.

"We should just leave, take her-"

"I'm ending this now, Topher. When this is through, say your good-byes to your sister. We're leaving."
