Alex's POV
After three knocks the door swings open.
"Didn't Violet warn you not to go back home?" I ask Joel.
"No place else to go," he moved aside to let me in.
"So where is she?" he asked.
"On a plane to Germany," I tell him as I sit down. "How did you know?"
"How did I know you were mixed up in the wrong kind of stuff?" Joel asks. "I've seen my fair share of friends get involved in it all, I warned her. Now she's aboard a plane to Europe," he sat down across from me.
"She'll write you a couple of months from now," I reassure him. "I don't think you're safe here..."
"I didn't sign my name when I visited," he states.
"Smart man," I smirk.
"So, what did she have to say to me?" Joel asks.
After a ten minute thank you for being like a father to her, how he protected her, how he sheltered her and how he gave her all she ever needed, Joel sees me out the door. Stephanie's place next.
She opens her door and we head to her dining room.
I warn her about some things and she tells me not to worry, Joel gave her the whole lecture once they left the hospital.
I tell her how much she means to Violet and how thankful she was through the years for truly being her only friend.
"A couple of months, okay?" I ask her as I walk out her door.
"I'll be checking the mail," she says before hugging me and giving us her best.
Topher's next.
Being back in my old building leaves me feeling nostalgic and depressed, I'll never be back.
Topher opens the door and let's me in.
"Thank you," I say. "For saving my life."
"I didn't do it for you, I did it for my sister," he explains. "Take care of her," he orders.
"Always," I tell him. "You already said your good-byes to each other but she just wanted to let you know she loves you, one last time. I also had to thank you and apologize for what I put you through, one last time."
"Well, it's been a lot," he crosses his arms. "For the sake of family, I forgive you," he puts his hand out for me to shake, I do so and say one last good-bye.
I mentally check off all the people Violet wanted me to say good-bye to for her. Now it's my turn.
After I pack all the bags and make my way back to Queens I ask the taxi driver if he could wait outside the gates of where he drove me to for the past twenty minutes, he kindly just nodded.
I walk down the path until I see the little stump of a tree that lets me know to make a left. I walk down a long row of tombstones and make it to the penultimate one and stare down.
"Hey dad," I start.
Violet's POV
"Why are you going to Berlin?" asked the little girl.
I almost choked on my answer.
Running from a drug cartel that as of tonight will no longer be.
We have just woken up; nearly six hours on the plane, about two more to go.
"Well," I start. "My boyfriend got a promotion, so we're moving and I'm going to meet him there," I lie.
The little girl just nods, "My daddy got a new job also," she explains. "I have to meet him there too," she smiles.
The flight attendants start to serve food and drinks and I take the little girls order for her. There's a lot of turbulence and I keep a conversation going with the girl to calm her nerves.
Two hours left.
Alex's POV
After I say my good-byes I make my way to the airport and head to the terminal where I'm to get on a plane for ten hours to my desired destination and meet with Violet.
I run to board the plane and make it just on time.
Two hours on the plane and I know Violet has to be arriving in Berlin.
Violet's POV
I open up the envelope and pull out my other ticket, a smile creeps on my face. I leave the hand written note Alex left me in the envelope along with the keys taped on a yellow sticky note inside of it.
I almost get lost but manage to find my own way to the other gate. I have to wait three hours until my plane arrives. Perfect.
Alex's POV
Halfway through my flight I decide it's time to take a nap. Violet's next plane should be arriving.
Violet's POV
I get on the considerably smaller airplane and rub the outside of it again for good luck. Four hours until my next destination.
