Emma's POV-
God what was I doing? I was supposed to be running away from my past, not staying in Adam's house!
Bird was so happy to be out of the orphanage, so I gave in and said yes to Adam when he offered.
I stretched and opened my eyes, and then remembered where I was. I groaned, feeling annoyed with it all.
Bird was fast asleep next to me, hugging her pillow desperately as she slept. God, how could one girl be so freaking adorable? I grinned at the scene, and then slipped out of bed.
I tiptoed outside into the hall, and quietly crept down the stairs. I saw Adam asleep on the couch, remote in hand. I turned off the TV and headed into the kitchen to make breakfast.
I cracked a few eggs from the fridge into a pan, and started to make some scrambled eggs.
I heard a groan from the living room, and my mind flashed to a few months ago.
She was laying on the floor, gasping for breath, blood seeping from a wound in her stomach. "Mom!?" I cried out. I rushed over to her, and dropped to her side.
I felt a tear roll down my cheek, and I turned off the stove. There was no way I could cook and mourn at the same time. The eggs would taste sad.
A pair of arms wrapped around my waist, and I just let him hold me. I started to sniffle, and then I couldn't hold it back anymore. I turned around and sobbed into Adam's chest, trembling and crying.
"Hey, I know it's hard. I can't say it will be okay, because I know that's a dumb thing to tell you. I promise you Han- Emma, I will help you through this." I sniffed and nodded, wrapping my arms around him.
"I wish I had chosen death." I whispered. Adam tensed up at this, and shook his head over and over. "No, don't ever say that. You don't understand how many people would miss you. Jerome would miss you, Mitch would miss you, and... I would miss you. So much."
He tilted my chin up to look at him, and I stared into his chocolate brown eyes. "I- I thought you hated me Adam." His eyes widened, and he shook his head. "I was blind. I just, was a complete jerk. I can understand if you hate me, but I could never hate you," He said sincerely.
I felt a small smile form on my face. "There's my girl." He whispered, and I suddenly realized how close we were.
"Adam I-" I started, but he cut me off. His eyes locked with mine, and he leaned in.
I backed away, my shoulders hitting the cabinet. Before Adam could speak, I ran past him and found Bird, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "We're leaving come on!" I say, grabbing my backpack and leading her to the door. "Hannah wait!" Adam called after us as we ran down the street.
That's what I should have done.
Instead I leaned in too, and we kissed. The sensible part of my brain screamed, "You stupid moron! He cheated on you!" I just pushed it away and lived in the moment. It felt so right to kiss him, but a little piece of my heart still loved Jerome.
We slowly backed up, until my back hit the wall.
That was when I lost control. He pushed me up, and I wrapped my legs around him. I ran my fingers through his curly, soft hair.
"I still love you, even after what you did," I murmured. He pulled away for a second in shock, then he whispered back "I love you too."
Suddenly, I noticed something that made me freeze on Adam's lips. My hair had turned back to it's original color, brown.
No! That can't be good. I'm becoming Hannah again! Adam stops kissing me, and looks at me. "There's my Hannah, I knew she was still there. I knew I could bring you back to me."
My eyes widened in surprise, and suddenly I felt betrayed yet again. "You...just wanted to bring her back?" I asked quietly. He realizes how bad it sounds, and he shakes his head. "No I just-" but I stopped him. "That was your whole plan wasn't it? Just to bring me back!"
He smiled sadly, "I'll admit it, it was. Now I realize how much I need you Hannah." He looks at me with longing in his eyes, pleading me.
Bird's POV-
I sat up, taking in my surroundings like I did every morning. Oh yeah, I was with some older girl Emma, in her ex boyfriends house I guess? I grinned, my plan was literally fool proof. Rob the house, escape, and do it again. I can't believe that drunken man happened to stumble by, just my luck.
I went through closets and drawers, finding nothing valuable. "Where the hell does this guy invest his money?" I mutter irritated. I walk into the hallway, avoiding Emma and the house owner in the kitchen. My face scrunched up in disgust when they started kissing, ew nasty!
I then entered an office room, that had so much expensive tech my mouth dropped open. This was enough to fund me for a year! I walked up to the desk, wireless cobra mouse, razor keyboard, Alienware monitor. That was at least $1,500. I was rich!
Suddenly, the boy came bursting through the door as I was putting the keyboard in my backpack. "You little thief!" He yelled, and yanked my backpack out of my hands.
I decided to give up on this house, it's far too dangerous. "Um, gotta go! Cya!" I dove in between his legs and scrambled out of the office.
I made eye contact with Emma only once, before running out the door and out onto the street.
"Just my luck," I mumbled miserably as I walked down the street. "Just my luck."
