Y/N and Connor were in an elevator, in CyberLife's building. Connor deactivated the camera in time, so they weren't in danger of getting caught. Not yet, at least.

'You know that you didn't have to come with me, this is way too dangerous.' Connor said, taking the two guns from the floor and offering one to Y/N.

She smiled. 'It's fine, I can manage. Besides, you'll need every help you can get if the rest of security arrives.'

Markus didn't even expect Connor to volunteer to infiltrate the CyberLife's tower, let alone Y/N. She was a human, but proved to be on the androids' side more than a few times, so they accepted her. Any kind of support they got was appreciated. At first, he didn't agree to send Y/N too, but he had to let her go after she insisted. Markus knew that Connor wouldn't let anything happen to her, no matter what.

It didn't take them long to reach the warehouse. After Connor scanned the area, they rushed to the long line of androids.

'Okay, do what you gotta do, I'll cover you.' She loaded the gun.

Connor took the android's hand, connecting to him. Sending the data, or rather the deviant virus, could take a while so he scanned the surroundings once more. He continued after making sure everything was clear.

'Uh, Connor?' Y/N asked. She sounded alarmed.

'What's wrong?'

'Please tell me you deactivated this thing too.' She pointed at the small, round camera in the corner of the room.

Connor was confused. He didn't see the camera in his mind palace.
'Fuck...'

Then they noticed the group of CyberLife's soldiers in the elevator. Their rifles were ready, already pointed at their targets.

Y/N's eyes were locked on their weapons; looking to the loaded rifles was like staring into the eyes of death.

She was paralyzed by fear and couldn't move for seconds. She was never scared standing in front of the gun before, but this time it was different.

These people aren't going to listen to their explanations or excuses, they'll shoot immediately. CyberLife's soldiers were fully armed with the best weapons possible, and Connor and her were outnumbered. Even if they did survive this attack, CyberLife had the best security system - their chances of leaving the tower were low. Part of her knew that they weren't going to make it.

When she snapped back to reality, the soldiers already left the elevator and were heading their way.

Security almost reached them, and they couldn't both dodge the bullets in time, so Connor pushed Y/N in front of him - they could be sheltered behind one of the counters.

'Quick, hide behind this!' She managed to make it. However, Connor was exposed and it was a matter of seconds - they opened fire and one of the bullets hit him. Despite his sensors for pain being turned off, he could feel every inch of the bullet piercing into him, ripping him apart.

DEACTIVATION IN 10:37

Guess that was the downside of being a deviant: you can't choose what you want to feel - you felt everything, way too much and way too real.

Connor stumbled next to Y/N, groaning.

'Are you alright?' She asked, worried.

Connor was determined to not let her know. Not until she was safe.Y/N would probably try to save him, which would only get her killed. He mustn't allow that. He promised himself that the last thing he's going to do is protect her.

'Yeah, it's nothing serious. Forget about the plan, I'm sure Markus will make it on his own. We have to leave, now.'

One of the soldiers approached them, and Y/N killed him easily, shooting the unprotected but vital spot on the neck.

On the run, Connor and Y/N took out five or six of them, avoiding major injuries themselves. Security called in for the backup and they activated the alarms. The state of emergency was declared, and the CyberLife's tower was locking down. Soon, there won't be a way out.

'Over here!' Y/N grabbed Connor's hand and pulled him towards the emergency exit. This time she recieved a hit, but the bullet just brushed her arm.

She gasped, but continued despite the pain.

Backup arrived fast and blocked their way out, so they were trapped inbetween. Another wave of bullets were shot, and Connor entered his mind palace to calculate their trajectory. Some of them threatened to hit Y/N, and Connor blocked them with his body.

SHORT ON THIRIUM

'I'm fine, I can take it!' He said immediately, knowing that Y/N was going to panic. He's CyberLife's greatest achievement, he can take much more damage than any human.

They were running short on ammunition too, and they had to escape soon. Connor's time shortened to 5 minutes.

They managed to shoot down the rest of the forces blocking their way, running like crazy and fighting to stay alive and reach the exit. Somehow, they escaped the last fire and entered the elevator. Because it was made for emergency, it was way quicker than the normal one.

There, Connor felt parts of him shut down one by one, but stayed quiet. His time was running out. They were going to make it. They had to make it.

The main exit was still open and they could simply run through it: all the CyberLife's available forces except the two guys were sent to the warehouse. It was unlikely they will be followed - CyberLife's first priority were the androids, not the intruders. She shot the first guy, knocking another one out cold with her bare hands. Connor was more than amazed. If her adrenaline wasn't that high and if her life wasn't in danger, she wouldn't believe that she was capable of it.

They kept running until they were at a safe distance, somewhere near Jericho. When Y/N made sure no one was following them, she smiled.

'We did it, Connor!' Y/N closed her eyes, taking in the fresh air. She laughed, her smile widening. However, it faded fast when she saw Connor.

He was writhing on the ground, lying in the pool of his own blood, pained grimace on his face.

'Connor?' Y/N ran up to his side 'What happened?' She lost her voice when she saw thirium dripping on the ground. Lots of it. The front of his uniform was completely drenched. Y/N removed his jacket, hoping to stop the leaking. She pressed the wound, receiving a pained gasp from Connor.

'I-It's too late for me, Y/N. But don't worry, I'm happy. My mission was to-' he coughed blood. 'My mission was to protect you. And I always accomplish my mission.' The light was slowly leaving his eyes.

'CONNOR! Please, don't leave me like this! It's going to be okay, just don't die on me, please...' Her helpless screaming mixed with sobs was heartbreaking. How could she fail to see that he was wounded before? How could she be so blind?

'I'll always be with you.'

He pulled her down for a final kiss, before surrendering to death.

Still, Connor died smiling, watching the face of his loved one.
