"Amit?"

With Avni calling out his name, he came out of the horrible scenario that had been playing in his mind. Every time he saw Karma pull the trigger, a thought lingered in his mind, what if I'd never reached on time? What if...

"Yes?" he answered absent-mindedly.

"Where are we going? It's not the way to your house."

At that, he stopped and looked at her as if it was for the first time.

"We're going to the bus station." He replied as he remembered the decision he had taken on reflex, and had ordered Aamir to bring her luggage at the bus station.

He wished longingly to own a vehicle of his own. It would have made things easier for Avni. But the reality was bitter, and he didn't have any money to buy one. At this hour, few of the rickshaw drivers were either done for the day or too drunk to carry their weight.

He looked around, leaving behind the series of dark and depressing thoughts. They were actually in the vicinity of the bus station now. He motioned at the far away bench, "There. We can rest there until Aamir comes," and helped her in walking, holding her close and supporting her weight on his.

The thought of making her leave sounded torturous. But he made himself devoid of any emotions. It was best if he didn't let his heart rule now. He'd been playing needy for quite some time. It was time for his mind to rule his actions.

"Aamir? Why's Aamir coming here? And why are we going to the bus station?" She asked in a low voice.

Amit chose not to answer her and kept walking without uttering a word.

Avni would have insisted for answers had she not been tired; she wanted nothing more but to sit and relax her aching limbs.

And after reaching the place, she did just that. She seated herself on the bench, and let out a deep breath. The cool and hard metal of the bench acted like a balm; it made her skin cool, and she felt at ease.

Amit looked around for a shop that might sell food or other necessities. He knew Avni might need something to drink or eat, but the thought of leaving her even for a short distance scared him. So, he waited for Aamir to show with her belongings. He seated himself next to her on the bench and held her closely.

He didn't want to talk about anything that meant him explaining his reason for why they were here, so he put up a question of his own. "I don't understand, Avni. Why did Karma kidnap you? I don't get it..."

The thought had been playing in his mind for a while now. He didn't get why he would do such a thing. If Karma wanted to harm her because of the protests, he had too many occasions where he could have. But, nothing added up in his mind.

Avni was hesitant at first, but she looked up from his shoulder and whispered, "He had seen me on the hill. When I was coming back, I had turned to see the state of it, and he had caught a glimpse of me then."

There was no point in questioning anything her now, of telling her she should have at least informed him; it was of no good, Amit thought. Right now, he was glad she was alright, and in one piece.

"I was pleased to see the knife on his shoulder." He said, changing the subject and praising her for what she did.

"I even headbutted him." Avni replied triumphantly.

"That's my girl." With that, he allowed himself to kiss her forehead, and held her tight as if he was afraid to let her go.

"Do you need anything? Water? Anything to eat?" Amit asked with uncertainty.
