Chapter 8- Safe...?

Zach's POV

When I got to Peyton's apartment, she opened the door and she gave me a happy look. "I'm SO glad your here," she said. "Why?," I asked confusingly. "M's upstairs crying her eyes out and won't talk to anyone, but if I know her she'll talk to you,"Peyton answered. I ran upstairs and knocked on her door. "C-come in," she stuttered. "M...we need to talk ab-," I said, but before I could finish she ran and jumped into my arms. "I c-can't do this anymore," she sobbed into my chest. "Hey, what do you mean you can't do this anymore, do what?" I questioned pulling her away from my chest holding her arms. "......l-live," she cried. I pulled her back to me in a hug and I decided to ask her about the bruises.

"M, Corbyn said he saw bruises on your neck that you tried to cover up......what happened?" I asked. She looked down and covered one side of her neck with her hand. She looked down and told me she fell down a flight of stairs. I knew she was lying because she couldn't look me in the eyes. I lifted her chin up making her look at me and saw tears running down her face. "What happened and don't lie to me," I said sternly but calm, so she knew I was serious. "......It was T-Todd," she cried. I pulled her into another hug and did my best to calm her down.

*FLASHBACK*

Todd was her......so called stepdad. After her dad got locked up her mom started to date again but never asked M how she felt about it. Her mom found this guy who she really liked and I guess they got along pretty well. I thought it was gonna finally be a chance for Mekayla to be happy, but I could see she wasn't. She told me that he got high one night and I guess he didn't know who she was and she went downstairs to go check on her sister, and he was messing with her. Mekayla pushed him out the way, and he pushed her against the wall and started leaving marks on her neck. She got him off of her after 20 minutes of fighting him, and she stayed downstairs with his sister and locked the door. Her sister Bryden is 8 and she always loved seeing me because whenever M left she brought Bryden with her and she would always have fun with Reese and Ryan. Bryden sticks to Mekayla like glue, they were always closer than M and her brother. Mekayla always tried her best to keep Bryden safe from everything that happened in the house, which wasn't always easy.

*BACK TO REALITY*

"M, you know I don't want you to go back there...I-I want you to come live with me," I said. She looked at me with a blank look and then started crying into my chest. I didn't know if that meant yes or no. "So, do you?" I asked. She looked at me and stopped crying and gave me a small smile. "Of course I do, but what about Bryden I can't leave her in that house," she said concerned. "She can stay at my house, I can call my mom," I requested. She nodded her head and I called my mom and she said yes.

Mekayla's POV

When Zach asked me to move in with him my heart melted. I didn't think he still cared, but obviously, he did. I thought about what would happen with Bryden, but Zach's mom said she could stay with them. I knew my brother would have a million questions, but I didn't care I just wanted me and my sister to be safe again.

I didn't want to go back to Dallas to get my stuff because I would be bombarded with questions, so I was going to keep what I had in L.A. and just buy some new stuff. On the inside, I felt safe again, but I have this feeling in my gut that I'm not. For the rest of the day, Zach was right by my side not even leaving for a second. He didn't go home, he stayed with me the entire night. It was just like it used to be before the band, and I loved it. It felt like we were closer than ever, and all I needed to be happy was him by my side.

Zach and I were sitting on the couch with me on his lap with my head in the crook of his neck when my phone started blowing up with text messages.
