|Chapter Ten|

I curl up against Knox and he puts an arm around my waist. We both lay on the couch with a blanket draped over us. It's so comfortable and I wish I could just be here forever, in his arms.

But that's not reality, and I realize things are gonna change.

"What happens when your care ends?" I ask somberly.

His response is to pull me tighter against him. I cuddle into his warmth and drop it for now. I don't really want to think about it either. I mean, I guess I could just hang around here, but I don't know. So much could happen before then and Knox doesn't even really live here.

    ~•~

I wake to someone nudging my shoulder. I wake up to see Knox looking at me, an amused look on his face.

     "Hmm?" I ask.

He points to something I can't see. What is it? I was comfortable. I groan. I sit up and find Darren here which snaps me out of my grogginess.

"Oh, hi," I say, a little embarrassed.

I stand quickly, cringing at my casual wear and total unprofessionalism. I face Darren, hoping he's not here to fire me or kick me out.

"I'm sorry to wake you. I just wanted to know how he was progressing," he says.

I'm taken aback at his question and reasoning to be here. If he's bothered by what he saw, he doesn't show it.

"Oh, Knox is doing really well. He should be back to training like he did before in a couple weeks or so," I tell him.

"Good, good. Then Knox might be able to make the deadline to the worldwide fight. Don't feel any pressure though, everyone wants him at full strength before he even thinks about that," he says.

"Wait, worldwide? Won't he get hurt?" I ask, my mind immediately thinking of something happening to him.

I know how good Knox is, I've seen as much, but bringing in athletes worldwide is a whole different story. Everyone has different reputations and it's so much stiffer competition.

"I assure you, Knox will be okay. He knows what he's doing and he's been training for it before the accident," he says, trying to calm my nerves.

I nod, not really put at ease at all. Knox pulls me down beside him on the couch and puts an arm around my shoulder. Darren sees the exchange, but doesn't make any note of it. I wonder if it's normal for Knox to have every woman around him falling at his feet. I'm not sure how to feel about it, but I know that it'll probably plague me for the day until I decide to ask Knox about it. If I even do at all.

"Well, I'll be off," he says and lets himself out.

I sigh and lean into Knox. He kisses my temple. I want to ask him about Darren's reaction, but don't want to ruin the day. Plus, maybe I'm just being paranoid and there really wasn't much to see.

"Let's eat somewhere," I say, needing to get my mind of my burning question.

     He nods.

"Let me change. I'll be right out," I tell him and head to my room.

I pull out a red sundress, but see my flannel hanging up near it. It gives me an idea and I go with it. I grab the same outfit I had on when Knox and I first met and slip it on. When I come out, he grins.
