Clover's POV:

"Get back here, Clover!!" I heard my boyfriend yell at me. For the past couple of years he has been really mean and abusive towards me. I've stayed up some nights, wondering and thinking of what went wrong with us. I never seemed to have an answer, so I naturally blamed myself for his behavior. But I finally reached my breaking point. I no longer wanted to be with him or live with him anymore, so I filled a backpack with some clothes and started running. I knew I had to get as far away from him as I could, or he'd hurt me. Tomorrow, I'd have a couple of my friends come with me to collect the rest of my stuff. Neither one of us had a car, so I was running on foot. The sky was covered in dark gray clouds, and the ground was slick with rain. I desperately hoped that I wouldn't slip and fall, but I hoped that he would. I could hear him running after me, and the horrible feeling of fear filled my body. The only plus was that it gave me the adrenaline I needed to keep pushing forward. I ran through alleyways and jumped over chain link fences, but he kept trailing close behind. 'Just, run out of stamina or give up!!' I thought, hoping he'd leave me alone. A stitch formed in my right side, my legs were starting to hurt, and my lungs were burning. I spotted an abandoned house and ran straight for it in hopes that I'd end up losing him. The door on the house was unlocked, which didn't surprise me. I ran through to the back porch, where I tripped and fell. 'Good going, Clover. Now he has you trapped.' I thought inside of my head. I turned over onto my backside and saw my soon to be ex boyfriend walking up to me. There was a menacing grin on his slightly baby faced features. His blue eyes blazed with anger and something darker that I couldn't quite decipher. It terrified me, but there wasn't much I could do. I was helpless, especially since he's much bigger and stronger than me. "I knew you'd fuck up eventually. You're very good at that... that's the only thing you're good at." He said in a creepy whisper like voice. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and my blood run cold. I pushed myself further away from him using my feet and hands, but I never took my eyes off of him. I didn't want him to take me by surprise. As I inched further away from him, I felt my hand go into a cold puddle of water. It was so cold that is sent a chill up my arm and it caused goosebumps to crop up on my skin. I glanced over at the puddle and found a piece of paper laying in it. The strange part is that the portion of paper that was in the water looked brand new, while the other part looked old and crumpled. I also spotted a couple of bright yellow sunflowers. "You know... I don't know why I even wanted to keep you. Now that I think of it.... I might just kill you. It would do the whole world a favor." He said, the pointed grin on his face grew. My heart was hammering in my chest, and my eyes grew wide with shock and horror. He picked up a shovel, and rose it over his shoulder like a baseball player getting ready to hit a home run ball. He started to come down with it, and I held up my arms in defense. I closed my eyes tight and set my teeth as I braces for impact. A few seconds passed, and the blow I was expecting never came. I opened my eyes and blinked a couple of times before I put my arms down. I gasped at what was in front of me. Half of a man was standing in front of me. Particles were swirling and merging together, it looked more like smoke or dust... maybe it was a combination of both. Something sort of like star dust. The substance was turning into a solid... the man was becoming whole right before my eyes. 'I'm dreaming. That's it.... I'm dreaming. Derek hit me with the shovel and knocked me out... this is just a dream.' I said inside of my head. "What the fuck!?" I heard Derek's voice ask. His voice seemed to cut through the dazed feeling that was clouding my brain. That's when I realized that this... all of this... was real, but I couldn't understand why it was real. "Run." The now solid man said in a deep, attractive voice. Derek didn't waste any time in getting the hell out of there. I should have been relived, and a part of me was. But another part of me wondered what the hell this man truly was, because he couldn't be human... could he? He turned around to face me, and I was surprised at how handsome he was. He's probably the handsomest man that I've ever seen. He tossed the shovel aside and then ran a hand through his dark hair. "Are you alright?" He asked me curiously as he handed out a hand for me to take. He was wearing light gray pants, a light gray vest, and a white buttoned t-shirt. "I... uh... yeah. T- Thanks." I replied as he helped me up on my feet. "No problem, what's your name?" He asked me curiously. "Clover, Clover Mayfield." I replied as I brushed myself off. "It's nice to meet you, Clover. My name is Will Caster." He replied. "It's nice to meet you too." I said with a small smile. He told me to join him on a bench that was sitting nearby, and I did so. The metal bench was rusted, but it held both of us effortlessly. I suddenly noticed how beautiful this little back yard was, and I wondered if he owned this place. I wondered if this was his home, and if it was then why did it look like it had been abandoned for years? "This might be a strange question, but... what year is it?" He asked me curiously after a few minutes of comfortable silence. 'How doesn't he know what year it is?' I asked inside of my head, but I didn't mention anything. I thought it would be best if I just answered his question. "Twenty eighteen." I replied with furrowed brows. His big brown eyes widened and he ran a hand through his hair once more. "Really?" He asked me curiously. "Yeah. What's wrong?" I asked curiously with furrowed brows. I was utterly confused and curious at the same time. I had so many questions for him, and I wondered if he'd be willing to answer them for me. "Well.... the last time I was... The last thing I remember was... it was in twenty fourteen." He replied, and I could barely believe my ears. "What?" I asked, flabbergasted. We sat there in collective shock and surprise, but I knew we were feeling very different emotions. "Evenly!" He suddenly said loudly. I jumped slightly at his sudden outburst and hoped he hadn't noticed that he startled me. "Did you see a tall beautiful woman with brunette hair around here?" He asked with a wild and frantic look in his eyes. "No. I... I only saw you and my ex boyfriend." I replied, shaking my head slightly. His eyes filled with sadness, and it was so strong that I could feel it exuding off of him. "I'm sorry." I said softly. "No, it... it's okay." He said, looking down at the ground. I hesitantly placed my hand on his shoulder and told him it was okay, even though I had no clue what was happening. I went from running in fear to being utterly confused. It's not every day you see a man materialize out of whispy practical stuff. "Come on, let's get you something to eat and drink," I said as I stood up and grabbed my backpack off of the ground. I hadn't even noticed that I dropped it when I fell. "You do eat, don't you?" I asked him curiously as I put my backpack on my shoulders. "Yeah." He replied as he slowly stood up and walked out of the back yard and into the house. He grabbed a dream catcher that had a circuit board in the center of it, and I figured it was some kind of symbolism of nature and technology coming together. He slipped it into his pants pocket, and I was surprise that it fit. We silently walked down the street a ways until we reached the local diner. I picked a booth that was far away from everyone else. The place wasn't really packed, but I just wanted to be sort of alone with him. A woman wearing a light yellow waitress uniform walked up to our table and asked us what we'd like to drink. She had curly golden hair and baby blue eyes. Her lips were covered in red lipstick; she sort of reminded me of Taylor Swift in a way. We each got a black coffee, and then she left us to look at the menus she had given us. "So... um... what are you?" I asked, bluntly. It took me the entire walk here to figure out a delicate way to ask him, but I couldn't find one. So... I just came out with it. "Not here. I'll explain everything to you once we're somewhere private." He said in a soft tone. "Okay." I replied, figuring that was best. The waitress came back with our coffee and we ordered ourselves a meal. He got scrambled eggs and toast, while I got a burger and fries. I desperately wanted to make conversation with him, but I had no idea what to talk about. I'd glance up at him every once in a while, and I noticed that he was constantly thinking. It was like he was in a million different places at the same time, and maybe he was. "Alright, scrambled eggs and toast. And... a burger and fries. Enjoy your meals you guys. If you need anything just holler for me." Our waitress said sweetly as she sat our food in front of us. "Thanks." Mr. Caster and I said at the same time. She left and we both dug into the delicious smelling food she had brought us. He ate a little, picked at his food, and then ate a little more. "If you aren't hungry you don't have to eat. It's okay." I said. He looked up at me and a small smile spread across his soft looking lips. A warm look filled his eyes, and I couldn't help but smile back at him. After we ate I realized that I needed to message one of my friends. I needed to find a place to stay; preferably a place where I could bring a plus one. So I scrolled through the contacts on my phone and chose my friend, Oliver.
